EWR Newark international airport may be the most interconnected one amongst NYC area compared to JFK or LGA but figuring out simple train trip out to Greater New York places can be challenging. For those who are new or unfamiliar with NJ Transit train trip this video provides step-by-step instruction, tips and tricks, end to end of the campus including University Neighborhood map that you can scan the QR code of to take the map with you.
Terminal B offers store and food selection that no other Newark terminals have; convenient but expensive due to airport fee. The Wawa convenience store does not have much to offer other than basic stuff like pizza, chips, and fruit bites. You as college student may need to hold off until you reach Palmer Square by getting on the TigerTransit bus from Wawa/Princeton station for better food selection.

Not to nitpick, but I flew Eastern Airlines into Newark, took the Airlink Bus (no train then) to Newark Penn Station, rode the train to Princeton Junction, and then took the dinky train to Princeton proper. And it was 1980 and I was 15.

Surviving ? A bit overly dramatic. I've taken that trip several times. Pretty easy. Tram, NJ Transit to Princeton then switch trains to Princeton Junction. My beautiful wonderful home state of New Jersey will not kill you.
