I live in Croatia in a very rural place and my neighbour who was living in Germany at the time bought one of these in the early 2000's where a 1997 mercedes c class was the best there was. He used to come back home to Croatia like once a year and the word would spread rather fast: "Duuude, Sven's in town, he came with the Ultima, come quick!!" All the kids from my village, including myself, we ran to Sven's house to sit in the car, rev it and he even gave us fun rides. I had Ultima design and build an upgraded GTR rolling chassis for me in 2000 strengthened for higher power. I worked with Dave Crower to design a reciprocating assembly for a 10,000 RPM 310 cu inch dry-sump SBC. I spent a year developing a twin turbo setup with cockpit adjustable boost. The engine made 660HP normally aspirated and 1450 HP at 14 lbs boost at the rear wheels. Electronic boost control was used to keep the torque below 650 ft lbs so we wouldn’t break the Porsche or Hewland transaxle. I never needed more than about 750 hp to lap any A prepared competitors on US road race circuits. For fun I took it to the drag races once and it ran a 163mph quarter mile on Pirelli street tires. Top speed was 252 mph. I raced it at western US tracks for 4 years then sold it to a collector in Houston Texas. I was developing engines at that time for Hendricks Motorsports. The car was a handful to drive with no power steering or power brakes. My Porsche GT2 cars were quick but not in the same league as the GTR.

@@N4CR I just tried the drag race for fun one weekend when I didn't have time to drive all the way to Las Vegas to do a road race. The GTR is a road racing chassis, not a weight transfer chassis. And in 2000 you couldn't buy 335/35 x 18 slicks, so I ran the PZero's that came with the car. Off the line, the car next to me (a Willeys w'900hp big block) jumped ahead at least 20 car length. All I could do is feather the gas pedal until I hit 100mph and there was enough downforce from the wing to get traction, then I nailed it full boost and I think the crowd was pretty amazed when I passed this guy 2/3's down the track at about double his speed. I'm a bit of a math nut, and if you could actually put all that power to the track it would do a very low 8 sec or mid 7 second. That same year I ran it in the Silver State Classic, an open road race, 90 miles of 2-lane highway (318) starting in Ely Nevada. They had a radar gun at the starting line, and they told me they had never seen a car accelerate that fast, and they had measured with the gun and a stop watch it went from 0 to 237mph in 18 seconds flat. I did drag racing in Salt Lake City during my college years with a '66 Ford Fairlane with a high-rise side-oiler 427 which was competitive with the factory teams at that time. But I never got more than 10 seconds of seat time and this was the incentive to look into road racing when I finally made enough money to have the right car. I started out with a Lola T-497 with a Cosworth BDA, then I raced Porsche Twin-Turbo's (GT2's)for a few years, then ordered the Ultima GTR. I spent about $1.3 million in engine/car development, and ended up owning a machine shop so I could make all the bits and pieces for the twin-turbo setup. Much of that budget was developing a software package that would automatically design headers. And it was that software package that got me into Hendricks Motorsports and GM Performance and I spent two years doing NASCAR Engine development and optimization. I'm just an Electrical Engineer with a bug for racing. And I've been lucky I think to dabble a bit with my cars over the years.

You can thank Dale Lomas and Brendan Keirle for that (might not be their original design but they brought it to the masses). RIP Bren.

At last someone driving an Ultima in the Nürburgring. It looked like Mischa was understandably nervous driving it hard, and he didn't look very comfortable. It takes some getting used to in a different car, especially when there are no driver aids. Well done though, Mischa. Thank you and thank Deadscoob.

You got the hang of it towards the end. This was my dream car until I discovered the superlite. It has better geometry according to F1 engineers who have compared both. Either way they are absolute beasts and IMO the ultimate driver car. You can't buy something better than this type of car for doing this IMO. Been in a full carbon Radical RXC600 and it was mental. This looks/feels similar stupid fast and it's not even being pushed.

Please find out about active noise cancellation, as I'm sure you're aware, with this technique you are able, literally at the flick of a switch, to dramatically change the sound and volume of the exhaust note. Given all the efforts put into this wonderful car, surely the little extra would be of serious benefit even if only to allow a few extra laps for testing, all that time invested in getting the lap around the ring and only getting one when you really needed more to get accustomed to the characteristics of the car. Great job as always, lovely to watch.

It’s not a racetrack. It’s a public toll road around peoples houses and villages
@robert234973 ай бұрын
@@stephenpage-murray7226 oddly enough, I've never seen anyone stop on it to pay a toll and I haven't seen any exit ramps off of it leading to a village. People start on the straightaway and finish a lap on that same straightaway. I heard it was around 30 Euros per lap. Finally, it's a racetrack because they actually hold professional races there. 12 hours of the nurburgring. Probably other races that I am unaware of.

I own a spaceframe Fiat 126, heavily modified purpose built track/road weapon. Rebuilt 1.6 Ecoboost, hybrid turbo, 3" downpipe & system, big IC, LSD lots more. The front suspension arms came from an Ultima GTR. Very likely the nearest I will ever get to owning an Ultima. well, you can push a NA LS7 with a track setting to something like 750 Engine HP. A supercharger or Turbo ads ONLY negative things to a track focused car. I have a C6Z06 and have a very very good aftermarket Traction Control, to compete with GT3RS's , otherwise, the car had to much power outside a corner. A Porsche put on the pin an goes, but a Corvette had to be patient, couse of the amount of tourque. I know people, who drives the Ring faster with heavily destroked LS7's than stock more powerfull Engines.
