Surviving Winter Freediving

There are ways to make winter freediving a bit more enjoyable. In this video I'm testing out using 7mm winter gloves instead of my old 5mm all-season gloves. I'm also adding a layer by having a 3mm singlet under the wetsuit.
This dive is done in Western Norway during the winter. Temperatures are about 3-4 degrees celcius in the surface and -3 in the air.
My survival tactics:
1. Upgrade to 3-finger thicker gloves.
2. Add that underlayer, a 3mm singlet helps!
3. Put the arms on the outside of your gloves to lock out water.
4. Put your legs on the outside of your boots to lock out water.
5. Bring a towel to stand on, this way you don't start by freezing on your feet.
6. Bring hot water for the suit (guess that's a given all year round).
7. Organize all your gear BEFORE starting changing into it.
8. Start by putting on the pants, that allows you to keep a warm sweather and hat on as long as possible.
9. Don't push your limits. When you get cold, get out of the water. Safety first!
All my gear is from my local diving store, Frivannsliv (www.frivannsliv.no). They know what works in the arctic areas.

You're a brave man Eivind. I've just done the same except in Mauritius & the water was 26C - more like a bath than a dive. All credit to you.

Duncan Ritchie I can only imagine how great diving in Mauritius must be!! The water here is so cold now that you loose feeling in the face - I’m impressed my 13 year old daughter is enjoying this too

Startet med GoPro Session 5, og byttet til GoPro black 6. Siste var mer enn godt nok. Skulle jeg kjøpt nytt ville GoPro 11 Mini fristet. Lite og lett å plassere på ulike fester

Bruker du plast finner her? Er ute etter finner, å veldig usikker om plast eller glassfiber er tingen. Hørt plast ikke er like effektivt siden den returnerer ikke på samme vis som glassfiber feks. Takk for innspill

FishingDude Det er en 2011 model NB 870 med Yanmar 222hk på strak aksling. Bunnsolid helårsbåt!! Om noen uker kommer kalesjen på akterdekket igjen, da blir det straks mer behagelig med omkledning til fridykkingen (har varmeuttak på akterdekk). Båten har mye samme kvaliteter som en Viknes, men er noe enklere og en hel del billigere. Anbefales varmt :-)

MrScruffybird It’s a 7mm open cell. Excellent suit and ok for winter diving- although I’d like a 9mm for the coldest dives

Bernan Galean No wetsuit and 55 Fahrenheit sounds hardcore. The dive in this video was 37 Fahrenheit and with good gear it was still cold 🥶
