Survivor, 10,000 Island Adventure in our Windrider 17

On October 19,2015 we set sail from Goodland, FL in our 17' Windrider trimaran. We joined in on this trip with several others that have previously sailed and camped in this area of the Everglades National Park, along the Gulf of Mexico. We had to carry everything we needed on the boat, food, water, etc, to last the entire trip. We were loaded heavy...but she still sailed great!

I designed the Survivor based logo I used in the video. The background and green insert were both pulled from pictures Kathy had taken on the trip.

Fun. I stumbled along the windrider online and watched your video. I love how you have it all tricked out. I love that type of adventure and exploration. I am sure it is full of stories and great memories that we did not see.

I’m sure it s a bit of a reach expecting a reply on a 7 year old video, but by any chance do y’all remember where you got that extending pole you use as a whisker pole from? Looks awesome. 10/10 production, reminded me of something I’d see on Animal Planet back in the day

Thanks. It has been a long time...but I believe it was a fiberglass extending paint roller handle. It worked well! Glad you enjoyed the video!

@@Flyboytr wow! Simple but genius! thanks for the reply, if y’all still have your Windrider I’m doing the Texas 200 this year with Ziggy in a 2002 WR17. My new to me Windrider gets here sometime this week, so I’m trying to get ideas for upgrades here and there I can use for the boat. I’m dying to get a reacher kit, but finding one is hard when you’re on a budget. Thanks for documenting your Windrider experiences, it helps me get an idea of what I’ll use on mine. Fair winds and following seas!

Roger, Thanks! We had a blast and enjoy the Windrider when we need a thrill. We are departing in two weeks for a 5 day camping/sailing trip along the Mississippi barrier islands. We will be doing that in our Macgregor 26 instead of the WR.

I'm not familiar with the water there. But these things are really tough. Since this video we have sailed in much heavier weather with larger seas and still about 25-30 MPH winds. Sorry I can't directly answer your question.

Hi Travis, I'm getting ready to sail my WR-17 from Tarpon Springs around all of Florida, then back up the St Johns River to Sanford though I might decide to keep going north to the Chesapeake Bay when I get to Jacksonville. I've been wondering why you chose to take the big styro-foam boxes rather than coolers? (If that's what they are, where did you get them?)

Those were both ice chests. The brand is LoBoy. Each one weighs about 3-4 lbs (compare that to a $400 Yeti that is crazy heavy!). They hold up extremely well and are almost 2" thick. We packed both with frozen and non frozen items on a Friday afternoon. We had our last beverage with ice the following Wednesday evening and still enjoyed a cool beer on Thursday! That is why we use them! Plus...they are cheap! One of our local grocery stores sells them. I think they were about $12 each. We are still using one of them...4 years later! @@dale3858 You're welcome. As stated above, they are ice chests (coolers). LoBoy also makes shipping containers for frozen items (basically the same thing just a different size). Hi there, Great video. I do have plans to do the same this summer with my W17. Can someone describe the environment there . Is it safe to overnight on those islands . It will be only me and my wife. Is there actual campground where you can meet other people? Is it safe on alligators , snakes? Raccoons doesn't bother me. Where / which overnight ramp did you start the journey . If you do it again from where you would start and which islands is worth visiting for 3-4 days? I am thinking start from Port of the Everglades but not sure is it overnight ramp. I will appreciate your respond. Thanks Roumen
