Meanwhile, the new list/menu of fireworks for 2025 is out and circulating. As I grew up our family tradition was Ka'lua pig, taro and sweet potatoes. Then celebrate the New Year with a Makahiki. Fireworks were done by the Chinese in February. Our Hawaiian families ate, played games, and sang and danced hula. That was our Tradition! When was the last Makahiki? I know the last Makahiki I participated in was in the 70's. People need to stop saying "Blasting fireworks is our tradition" when they don't know what tradition really is!

Glad that neighbor made it. I’m not an insurance guy but wonder if there’s a clause in the insurance contract that void’s the policy in these situations. If not, sue them so the insurance companies PUT clauses in that nullifies any payout in these negligent circumstances. If they’re renting, the homeowner is still responsible. Vet your tenants better. It’s not only about getting paid for a death or pain and suffering. It’s about taking ALL measures to stop this crap once and for ALL!!

Important for ppl to have specialized proper burn care for those wounds- a skin infection can be life threatening. To heal, these ppl need adequate clean drinking water to maintain hydration & nutritional support for their skin to heal. Individuals who were there and diagnosed with PTSD from being there will be traumatized seeing a folding table possibly for life. Hearing sounds like bombs going off will trigger PTSD symptoms as well for the rest of their life and will need ongoing medical treatment. Being diagnosed with PTSD is not fun. Something they'll have to live with for the rest of their lives. Lawmakers and the powers that be have waited too long to take serious action against offenders. It almost always takes a drastic tragedy for them to act upon solving the issue. What happened to the Illegal Fireworks Task Force? Common sense will point towards the DOCKS where most if not all of the fireworks entered our state. Hawaii being a bedroom community state is a major factor. Friends, neighbors and family don't want to snitch on others fearing retaliation, so everyone stays silent. Sadly it took something like this to happen before band-aid fixes stop. Penalties for guilty parties need to be severe and harsh to deter others from importing, selling and using Illegal Fireworks. 1st offense: $1000 fine and 300 hours community service, ( wearing pink T-shirts that say, "I Used Illegal Fireworks while picking up trash on our highways ), 2nd offense: $5,000 fine plus jail time, 3rd offense: $10,000 + property seizure, all felonies. Time to wake up Hawaii!
