Being very much of the old school, I could never fathom the numerous complaints about the grip. Bought one over thirty years ago and, upon feeling the grip, thought "What a clever idea to place the fingers in the right position." Not a very exciting pen but reliable and rugged for everyday use. Cheers, mate.

I have no issues with the grip being triangular, but I wish it was a bit wider. Pilot Kakuno's grip section is significantly more comfortable for me.

Triangle grip makes reverse writing quite awkward.

That's a good description. But @ichirofakename does make a good point about reverse writing!

Dear Mr Waski...what a fun revisit well 3 times whatever that word is! I have gifted these so often I have lost count of how many- they have always been liked and appreciated and even started a fountain pen journey for a couple of people. Its an easy pen to learn 'stuff' in my humble opinion. The cartridge just pushes in quite snugly- you need to give it a good bit of force to break the cartridge seal and its good to go. This was fun and I do like that Coral colour on your Lamy pen. Sweet Blessings Mand XOXO

You're right! These are a great introduction and thank you for introducing more people to these pens. And thank you for telling me about the cartridge. I need to buy one just so I know!

The Lamy Safari is one of the first fountain pens I bought. I have been having fun collecting all the new special edition Safaris when they come out. I do love the black pen clip that the newer releases have instead of the chrome clip. I have no problem with the grip. I’m left-handed and find the triangular grip quite comfortable to write with for extended periods of time. I agree, they are a good workhorse pen. Thanks for a very informative survivor pen video.

The black clip is a subtle but nice touch! And thank you for sharing your experience as a left-handed person. I never know how these pens are for those who are left-handed.

I don't like the aesthetic, but I do recognise that it's a good workhorse pen. And the Lamy Left Hand nib I put on my Jinhao 80 is an absolute winner! 🏆 By the way, I just received my first Senator in the post this morning, and you are one of the few people who might understand my excitement 😄

I agree: not a terribly attractive pen, but reliable. Glad you got your Senator! Which one did you get?

@WaskiSquirrel Well, I haven't really identified which model yet. It's like a Regent, but shorter (about 126mm). Writes really well.

I really enjoy my two Lamy Safari pens. M and 1.1 stub. It took me ages to decide to buy one, but now I have it I now understand what a great pen it is.

nice channel, better than those mobile unboxing videos
@WaskiSquirrel

I will unbox a pen if it's new to me, but the main focus to me is always the pen inside it, except for the rare instance when there actually is interesting packaging. And, if I do an unboxing, I always like to film part of the video several weeks (or more) afterward to give my experience.

Whenever I have a pen that is too decent to throw away but too cheap to sell, I tend to give it away. These are perfect for introducing others to fountain pens.

I find the “new” look brings to mind a Frankenstein creation. But we all like different styles which is a good thing.

Well, at least that neon yellow-green one is unlikely to get stolen. It's probably hard to lose too. It will just sit there and kind of glow until you spot it from 25 or 30 feet away and pick it up. The Lamy is the old pickup truck of the fountain pen world. It sure isn't pretty but it's reliable and always does what you need it to.

These two have been correcting papers at school since I filmed this video. This seems to be their role in life, and they are perfectly suited for it! The Coral one was refilled once. And I'll be able to close out the year with these two.

Being a Lego kid, I appreciate blockiness & ABS to the touch. Just don't get too hung up on LEs, since the premium is not justified over time. Your ideas & mind flow from these pens, as others that are more aesthetically pleasing, and can be far more pricey. Waski is right, Safaris make great on-the-go travel pens. Inspire away folks.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel 3 ай бұрын
Limited editions are more expensive, but I think they're nice for those in the fountain pen world who appreciate such things. I grew up with Legos as well! I've always had a fictional universe in my head and a desire to create stories, so the Legos were a way to make those stories tangible.

Never really liked the pen but it is practical and reliable. I own two but they were both bought for me as gifts. I like how Lamy have provided a vast choice of colours. This, no doubt, makes them very collectible. The nib choice is also quite good. The Safari has been a hugely successful design for Lamy in all its guises i.e. Al Star and Vista versions included. It would be quite interesting to know how many of them Lamy have manufactured to date.

I have the Al Star with , I think, all the available nib sizes. Think the clip is ugly but don’t mind the grip. It is a good performing pen that I seldom use. why? I do not know. Thanks for revisit.

I agree on the clip. But I also think it's cheap to make. Agreed on performance. I too use it only rarely, but do appreciate how well it writes.

Not a fan of the grip, so I supposed I hold in incorrectly... But doesn't bother me too much. I have ordered a few nibs now and just find them very inconsistent, which is a pity because these are really nice pens. I love the 1.1 stub nib. Great channel and video, thanks!

I don't have a Safari, or any Lamy pen. They just never grabbed my attention, although those metal ones that came out; a couole of years ago; were attractively finished. I did briefly consider the coffee Al-Star. I would very much appreciate a re visit of the Pilot E95s, if you have one. I have that pen on order ( well, it's backordered) and I'm re watching those videos.

I can verify that my Safari (a new pink/blackberry) does not have nubbins on the cartridge that snap into the slots on the section. Apparently, only the converters get those.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel 3 ай бұрын

absolutely love the looks of the Lamy safari, but wish they had a nib for those of us with small handwriting - their ‘EF’ is just not even remotely fine enough for my liking: will stick with my Pilot78g EF, thanks:)

The Safari is the only pen I've purchased and discarded twice, decades apart. Also discarded a Joy, with all its nibs. They just don't suit me. I'm quite happy with my CP1 and Nexx.

I don't have either the CP1 or Nexx. But I agree with you one one thing: this really isn't my pen either. A decent pen, but not my type of pen.
