I have a (plain-er) Nakaya that I bought in about 2005, directly from Nakaya. I remember filling out a form about my writting (left handed underwriter, large, jerky fast-slow writing, etc.). Whatever magic they performed on my nib really worked. One of my favorite nibs.

Absolutely! They really do know how to tune a nib. It's not just a pretty pen.

Wow, I fell in love with this pen back in the day when Matt Armstrong of the Pen Habit reviewed his. (2015 ish?) Wanted one ever since. You keep reinforcing my lust every time you feature this pen in PIU! It’s just as out of reach for me now as it was when Matt Reviewed it. So keep showing it to us several times a year. So glad the pen is still very important and satisfying to you now. Keep enjoying it. Thanks for this survivor revisit.

I need to find Matt's review: I don't remember that one. And, yes, I still enjoy it very much!

This is one of my favourite pens in your collection. Nice to know you can have the same nib experience with a 3776. Of course the 3776 does not bring the Nakaya quality to the table. I understand that. Your "summing up" touches on the whole debate about justifying very expensive fountain pens. The question you have to ask yourself is "Is this pen (or watch, or camera or phone, or holiday etc) important to me?" As a ratio of pen cost to monthly income it may seem a bit extreme but I always think life is too short to deny yourself such pleasures. It may have been "KZbin" money but you had to work to make those videos. Enjoy your beautiful Nakaya!

I very much enjoy it! I'm actually reaching a major life milestone that might have led me to buy this pen if I weren't doing KZbin (house will soon be paid off). As I said in the video, it would probably be my one and only lifetime purchase. Fortunately, the KZbin lets me make the occasional splurge without guilt.

Amazing pen which I hope you enjoy. I discuss these pens with my regular small shop retailer. He sometimes has some of these pens in his shop like this one.

Hard to think of a better pen; it's truly beautiful pen. Like you, I prefer convertors in modern pens; they're simple, cheap, and easy to use. Thanks for showing us. Cheers from Oz.

So what's your fiction-writing pen(s)?
@WaskiSquirrel

Mostly typewriter, Lamy 2000, Pilot Custom 823, and a vintage Kaweco v14s which is just amazing. My main thing is I don't want to be thinking about the pen when I write. I want to be writing. The Lamy 2000 is great if it's brainstorming with frequent stops.

Truly fantastic pen. Every time you featured it in a PiU, I used to drool over and praise it lavishly. Indeed, your lovely pen inspired me to decide to order and patiently wait for my own Nakaya Decapod Twist. I bought the pen in the irresistibly gorgeous Taki Amenuri urushi finish. The eight month-long wait was well worth it. I also bought the pen in the clip-less version. As much as I like the nibs on Platinum 3776 pen, I still wish the Decapod (at its very steep, luxury model pricing) had a different, even nicer nib than it does. This isn’t just a survivor pen, but a keeper for life. Keep it! 🙂

It really is a nice pen! Just wonderful to hold and I love looking at it: part of why I couldn't make it a daily writer. Yes, that wait is long. If you're like me, you had anticipation for a while, and then you forgot about it until it was suddenly on its way. Definitely a joy to open up the package and start writing with it! I really like Platinum's President nib, found on their Izumo models, but it does not come in a soft version.

I just received this pen, after almost a year waiting. This January I received a notice from Nakaya that the factory in Japan has been severely damaged due to the recent earthquake, and that continued production is in jeopardy. My order was not complete, but this alternative pen was offered in exchange for it. Unfortunately my pen seems to have missed out on the predelivery quality control writing test. The nib is extremely scratchy and almost tears into the paper. Granted , I am using a very finicky ink, Platinum Citrus Black, but that is the color that the suits the pen best, to my taste… From your experience, suggestions for improving this nib, I would appreciate. Thank you.

That's painful, especially after a year! I am so sorry to hear you're having such a bad experience. And I hope that they can continue making these pens. I didn't realize there was such a problem. Usually when a nib is tearing the paper, the problem is misaligned tines. But the fix could void any warranty you might have. What I've done is to adjust the tines a little at a time with my fingernail and study them with a loupe. You might also try a nibmeister. But the best might be to contact the seller. They might be able to swap nibs. Installing a Platinum 3776 nib would also work, but would not consider that acceptable.
