Still fascinates me to think Randy Rasmussen played in the 60s, 70s and into the 80s. There’s something mystical about that to me, with him being a pre- merge veteran of the game at this point.

You're so welcome John. The Jets were a pleasant surprise in 1981. After starting out at 0-3 they put it all together. The New York sack exchange led by Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko were dominant. One of the greatest Jets teams ever in my opinion.

@@survivor5044 The 81' team is also my favorite Jets team, Richard, and I saw the Joe Namath team play their final game as Super Bowl Champs in person (a 13-6 playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs). Believe me, I lived and died with every game that year, and their playoff loss to Buffalo in the AFC Wildcard Game (31-27) was probably the most exciting NFL game I have ever attended. As I said, I attended the Jets-Giants game you recently posted, but I never saw it again after the day it was played. I have been walking around thinking about it for almost 40 years. Now, thanks to you, I get to experience it again. Much obliged!

@@survivor5044 Richard, I hate to sound greedy, but I can't help myself . . . . . Can you possibly post a few more games from that 81' Jets season? You have put the final game of the year against the Packers up, and the second game against Miami has been posted from time to time. I have also seen the early game against Pittsburgh on the web. But is there any chance you can post the two games against New England, the two against Buffalo, and the two against the Colts? Or perhaps the late season road game against Cleveland? There was also a very disappointing home game against Seattle and another tough home loss against Cincinnati. Any of those games would be very important to me. As always, many thanks for your invaluable services!

These teams didn’t play often. In fact they never met at Shea Stadium while the Jets played there (1964-83). They would have in 1984 but that was the first year the Jets moved to Giants Stadium.

Actually, the Jets and the Giants did play a regular season game at Shea Stadium, Rusty. I attended the game played between the two clubs in November, 1970. Joe Namath did not play, and the Giants won pretty handily. www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197011010nyj.htm

It will be almost impossible to find anywhere even from a private collector. The VCR in the U.S. didn't exist until 1977. Unless NFL Films recorded this game you can forget about it. It sucks the NFL will not broadcast these classic NFL games from the glory days. I know exactly how you feel John, because they are a number of games from the AFL I would love to see.
@johnvisconti98484 жыл бұрын
@@survivor5044 Yeah, I figured as much. NFL Films produced a 23-minute documentary on the game --- thirty minutes with commercials --- and used it for an edition of the 'Game of the Week' back in 74.' I don't know if they recorded the entire game. I am right there with you regarding those early AFL contests. I often think that the rivalry between the Raiders and the Chiefs during the late 60's and early 70's produced some of the greatest games in the history of professional football. I attended the Jets' last game as defending Super Bowl Champs. It was a 13-6 playoff loss against the Chiefs at Shea Stadium. I was just a kid at the time. Oh, what I would give to see the original broadcast of that game! As always, thanks for your invaluable services.

@johnvisconti98484 жыл бұрын
You're right; Richard Todd's inconsistency could be maddening. But lots of Jets fans, sportswriters, and other aficionados, will tell you that Todd never played well again after the rip-off playoff loss in the AFC Championship Game following the 82' season (y'know, the "Mud Bowl," in which Shula deliberately had the ground's crew keep the tarp off the field during a week of steady rain in order to neutralize the Jets' advantages in team speed and athleticism). But that is not true. Todd played exceptionally well in the memorable Week Three match-up between the Jets and the Rams during the 83' season, which Richard Waldrup has also posted.
