Thanks for posting. I was 17 and went to the game. Section 22 row T. So cold but so worth it.

Vin Scully could read the phone book for an hour and it would sound glorious. He would weave five stories about Johnny Unitas and Otto Graham into the recitation.

It was the wildcard and I was one of the fans who pulled it down. They had to scramble to get new posts for the wildcard game and put one together with spare parts from other teams.

This game not only put the Jets into the playoffs as a Wildcard team it also by proxy of beating the Pack helped to put the Giants cross town into the playoffs as well.

I was a Packer fan born and raised in New York when this game happened. It was horrible lol. The first time the Packers had a real shot of making the post season in years -- they had been horrible for so long -- and then this disaster. Very painful.

I remember this game too. A lot of hype leading up the game. The Giants and Jets were poised to both make the playoffs. Green Bay had a decent team too at the time.

That same year, The Packers, Giants, Jets, and Seahawks were in the cellar from 1980's finished records. So sad, they played the Giants twice and Lawrence Taylor lit a fire and destroyed Lynn Dickey with two sacks. I think it was when the Giants hosted the Packers.

Hard to believe this game was 39 years ago. What I remember about this game was how cold it was. It was brutal cold!! I was marching in a champion Drum and Bugle Corps, The Long Island Sunrisers. It was so brutally cold that when we stupidly did the half time show our mouthpieces - I was a horn player- were freezing to our lips!!!

I was sitting in the upper deck, and can confirm it was downright frigid that day. Not that I cared in the end, but I wouldn't want to do that again 40+ years later!

I was at this game after betting my only $20 to win 216 the day before at Aqueduct. I helped pull down the goalposts after the game, almost messing up the wildcard, then I wondered why I was on the field celebrating a wildcard berth!

This was to that point the biggest NFL game in New York since Super Bowl III. After the Giants beat the Cowboys a day earlier in The Meadowlands, if the Jets won this game, they AND the Giants would BOTH make the playoffs as they did (Giants for the first time since the 1963 NFL Championship, Jets for the first time since 1969).
@conlanding2 жыл бұрын
Had the Jets lost this game to the Packers, they would not have been officially eliminated from the playoffs. It would've gotten the Denver Broncos into the playoffs and the Jets playoff hopes would have depended on the Oakland Raiders to defeat the San Diego Chargers game on Monday Night Football to conclude the 1981 NFL season to get into the playoffs.

I was at this game. I remember 2 things 1: I froze my ass off. 2: The sack exchange was all over Dickey. So, this is first time I’ve seen broadcast I love Vin..but “no good” is not the term for incomplete passes.

These JETS had potential ( Broncos fan myself ) but they were always much better in first half of season than second. One year I remember them starting 9-0 or similar and then missing the playoffs. Al Toon & Wesley Walker were great. Kenny O’Brien could be good , but was a mirage in the end. Freeman McNeil and Johnny Hector committee type backfield seems more natural in today’s NFL than this time period. On D , I thought Erik McMillan was a great player , but haven’t looked at his career path in a long time & in my hazy memory it seems like he had a couple great years ( possibly after this games time period ) but didn’t have a very long career in the end for whatever reason.
@davidcobb26934 жыл бұрын
Erik McMillan was the 1988 AP Rookie Defensive Player Of the Year, www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McMiEr00.htm And the Jets NEVER started a season going 9-0, the 1986 Jets won their opening game then lost in Week 2 but they ripped off 9 straight wins to get to 10-1 before losing to Miami in Week 12, a 45-3 Monday Night Football massacre, to fall to 10-2. They made the playoffs, losing in Cleveland in 2 Overtime periods.
