Back in 2002 this vote was huge. It was the first time we had seen a power switch in the game like that. Borneo, Outback, and Africa are all good to great seasons, but after the first jury vote it was a guarantee a Tagi, Ogakor, and Boran member were going to win, it was just a matter of who. Here, it was completely up in the air, and I honestly think Marquesas is the most underrated season.

@@eddie4183 I agree, Vecepia is very underrated. She laid low, adapted to whatever camp she was at (fun loving while at Maraamu, hard worker at Rotu), wasn't afraid to betray people, and was smart enough to make her luxury item a journal and pen since she knew "Fallen Comrades" would inevitably be an immunity challenge.

Right. Her gameplay back then was criticized. Today's modern survivor however appreciates and rewards this. Vecepia is the first survivor who introduced this kind of gameplay who later on used by Sandra to win twice. Vecepia is one of the few real game changers.

I would argue Survivor Africa ALMOST had a power shift when Kelly flipped. Unfortunately, it never got to pan out do to Brandon flipping as well and handing the game back to the Borans, just because he couldn't stand Frank.

@@roger_towny_jr That's what made this vote so satisfying. We had almost seen power shifts in the game at the time, but they never came to fruition. I still remember when this episode aired and the feeling of excitement when Jeff revealed the fourth vote for John and it was clear the flip had actually happened.

I like how sean was so humble after John was blindsided. He knows it's just a game, but on a human level, he knows it's hard to end someone else run at a million dollars

Pablo Moysés No, Kathy was already on the outs... the plan was 9th Sean, 8th Vecepia, 7th Kathy and then Paschal and Neleh. Neleh talked to Paschal e told him that she didn’t want to be 5th or 6th so they joined the other 3 on the outs and vote out John and then the rest of the alliance

This season is woefully underrated. The first season where the vote didn’t go down tribal lines after the merge. The players figured out a different way to play the game. This is where it all started for Boston Rob. And I have to say, I really miss the Final 2. Nothing like that final singular vote. Survivor jumped the shark in my view when they went to final 3. Not as compelling.

It was Kathy's idea first to join sean and Vecepia because she was in the minority. Then Neleh join to her and convinced Paschal. Thats why they blindsided John

I'm halfway through this season and honestly, it's not as bad as I thought it would be, very pleasantly surprised to say the least :D I'll honestly rank Marquesas higher than seasons like Vanuatu and Australia (that season was sooooo overrated wtf); just want to compare it against the earlier seasons just to give it some justice because the game today has modernized in leaps and bounds. A severely underrated season which deserves more credit and recognition

Pablo Moysés John didn’t see it coming so it was a blindside. You could see Tammy was confused as well. It could be that only Zoe happened to know that this was coming, so she wanted to be part of the majority. You can see in the next episode she’s trying so hard to fit in with the Maraamus.
