If we still lived in the wild we'd have thousands of years of built up intergenerational knowledge of the environment. We'd know where all the foods are, the nest shelters, material for tools etc. Modern people trying to survive in the wilderness is not an accurate representation of the past. Admittedly modern life is a lot more comfortable than the hunter/gatherer lifestyle would have been. Whether we're happier now as people though is a different matter.

This show burst the bubble of everyone who thought they’d walk into the woods with a pocket knife and live and eat like a king. Probably saved a lot of lives by making people take the wilderness seriously and showing how slim the pickings can be out there.

I love to watch this first episode to see his own progress. Where he started compared to the last episodes when he is so much more experienced. I mean the trap scene is fantastic. What I also love is how enthused he is in the first season, which makes sense since he got his program idea published and all. But it's fun how that enthusiasm became more an I-don't-get-payed-enough-for-this-attitude the longer the series went on.

I've only just discovered this series. In England, I used to spend my hungover Sunday's as a teenager watching the discovery channel, but we only had the great Ray Mears, and the occasionally entertaining, and frequently "ba!" Bear Grylls. I feel like we missed out not having this program. Also, I fully get a lot of these comments saying how calming Les's presenting style is. These episodes are making going through separating from my wife a little better. I like Les.

When I was younger I thought this show was really boring. I loved Man vs Wild but the only reason I ever watched this show is because Les Stroud is Canadian, like me. Now I really appreciate it. Hopefully I won't ever need any of this knowledge. But I think of it every time I go into the stretch of trees behind my house. I'm currently keeping a freshwater snail as a pet. He seems happy. Hopefully I can find it a companion eventually... and hopefully they don't eat each other. I heard they do that... On a side note, I don't even want to imagine the type of intense diarrhea Les has probably had.

@@majesticsunset8184 Oh, I didn't see this until now! The original is long dead, sadly. It took me a couple times to get it right. But now the offspring of the offsprings' offspring are living happily in an aquarium. They get fed fish food and little scraps of veggies. They do occasionally cannibalize each other- but they seem to only go after dead ones. I have bred house snails. I don't think they'd survive being thrown into the dugout now. Some of them got used to being touched as well. I still think their little ears are cute; less cute when you remember that they're actually tentacles though.

13:08 "I've only ever seen this done..." (starting fire with bow-stick) lmfao. I just watched his survival commentaries on hollywood survival movies. Fantastic! But he talked a lot about how he would do silly, unnecessary things that looked cool, early on in the show. It's really funny to rewatch these episodes--w/at least 7 years since I watched one--after having watched his commentary on his own survival development. He reviewed Jeremiah Johnson, went on about that being his favourite movie, and the first night of the first episode he's building his "Jeremiah Johnson shelter" LOVE IT!!

I have to say, the music in the Survivorman series is so unique and creative. It's no surprise that Les and Peter wrote and performed all of it themselves. It not only fits the scenery perfectly, but it just creates the perfect atmosphere as well. Les is such an amazing talent on many levels. So creative and artistic.

I was recommended this and boy am I glad I watched it! This is the first real survival programme I have ever seen. Unbelievably good! No frills, all the mistakes left in and a comprehensive covering of mindset and moral. Excellent!

Les, yours is absolutly my #1 favorite TV series of all time. Its also, in my opinion, the first AND last truly authentic show in the so called "survival" genre. Many, many thanks for making your creation freely available to us on YT. You're the MAN. Rock on!

This brings back so much nostalgia from when I was a kid. I used to watch Survivorman in the living room with my dad and older brother all the time and I loved it so much. So glad The episodes were put up on KZbin. Also I just now figured out that his name is Les Stroud. I used to just call him Survivorman.

I plan on doing this myself with a GoPro hero 7 and some accessories and 3 batteries with a waterproof solar charger ... Provided the charger lasts I should be fine lol they may be slow but all you have is time in these situations. 20 watts and 5v 2amp max output should do for 1200miliamp li-ion batteries lol over the course of 10 hours + should always have one available at least that way to use for sure, bringing a charging bank to plug bats in into the usb on the solar panel In 1440p I should get about an hour and a half of good recording per charge per bat(not everything has to to be recorded lol) Should let me record most stuff and you don't need waterproof bags or housings anymore... Back then probably a whole different game ! BE SO TEDIOUS and the stuff was much bigger. Respect Les! Now you can fit SO MUCH IN A 75L bag Tent Inflatable mattress Sinless cookware Sleeping bags Tarps Solar Tools Camera equip Food Medical etc like everything lol Batteries Radios Axe Wet bags Warmers Machete Knife Flashlight Recharge LED headband Fish supplies (net, pole, traps) On and on and on lol. I wanna be ready for anything
