Survivorman - Les Stroud

Survivorman - Les Stroud

Күн бұрын

This is an inspiring little film we put together for my good friend and original survival instructor Doug Getgood. His dream was to spend a year alone in the woods and inspired as he was, a little bit anyway, by my year doing just that, he asked me about a good location to do so. I set him up to make use of a cabin built by yet another soul seeker. A man named Dan Brinton. That's all I know about him: that he built this cabin - I'm not even sure if he's still alive. But Doug was to make great use of this one person cabin in the woods built by axe and hand saw. In any event if you have ever dreamed of the Thoreau-esque wilderness pursuit of spending a year in the woods have a watch!

This is one story of a man following a dream of self discovery. There’s hundreds if not thousands of individuals that have done the same. I spent 7 years off the grid in a homemade solar powered trailer in remote forests in Michigan through all 4 seasons alone. I learned never take anything for granted and be your own best friend, nobody was out there to hold your hand when things went south.

ive had a gnawing fear for over a decade or so that eventually all that will be gone, we'll just have industry... everything will be gone, all the forests, alaska will be destroyed. the only place that will be pure are the places that are almost uninhabitable by man, like Antarctica. it's a nightmare that I think about a lot. And even though it wont happen in any of our lifetimes, just knowing that one day it will really depresses me. if we keep going in this direction that's what the coming generations will have on earth, just industry... I don't mean to rant but for some reason your comment made me think about Alaska and how pure those hunter gatherers live up there. the original alaskan people. they need to be protected at all costs.

I'm SO fascinated by bigfoot, it can be difficult to force myself to even check out something like this, but it was very well worth the watch. @wassamattau5787
@wassamattau5787 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jaden48108 Right? Especially that Boggy Creek monster- sensationalized Hollywood version aside. There seem to be quite a few stories from the southern areas of the country, of what appear to possibly be some semi-aquatic, or aquatic-living subspecies of sasquatch, one with a particularly nasty disposition? Difficult to say for sure, considering the lack of information we have(admittedly, at least.. there's little doubt the government has a vastly greater understanding of, & amount of data regarding the species, including what they've learned from the various carcasses they've confiscated.. & it seems highly likely, or maybe even to be a certainty considering the national security implications, that they've taken some number of live specimens of sasquatch for scientific study as well, especially in more recent decades, with the advances we've made in technology that would accommodate an endeavor such as the capture & imprisonment of some of these creatures, which is a truly nightmarish scenario) regarding sasquatch, but if you place any stock in eyewittness accounts(& I, for one, place a great deal in it), it does appear there are an inordinate number of subspecies of the creatures, all with at least slightly, if not significantly different(from each other) sizes, appearances, abilities, preferences & dispositions, etc., which would make a great deal of sense, considering factors like differences in environmental surroundings, isolation of various populations from others, & even considering what we see of different hominins in the fossil records, which would indicate that at times the earth was literally crawling with different subspecies of hominins, all living side by side. Yeah, I really do wonder if there isn't an extra frightening group of these creatures that live mostly in the water. We've seen rare, miraculously captured pieces of natire footage, showing such amazing events as a battle between a shark & a large octopus, or a crocodile & a shark, etc., & even some, ultra rare three way fights to the death between different, top, aquatic predators. Can anyone even begin to imagine how thrilling a threeway battle between a large, freshwater-living bullshark, a large alligator/crocodile, & an "aquasquatch"(my term that I'm coining & copywriting right here, right now- don't even try to use without my express permission, as provided only after adequate compensation, of course- "aquasqautch", "watersquatch", "marine bigfoot"/"marinasquatch", or any such variation..okay, thanks, I know I can count on everyone's honesty as regards these new terms) might play out like?

I think in the back of everyone's mind they have the notion that they want to go out and "live off the land". Some could but most would be a miserable disaster. I guess it comes from our past history as hunter/gatherers. That's why Primitive Bushcraft has become so popular over the last few years. There used to be only a couple Bushcraft Channels, but now it's an explosion. I have a few favorites that I tune into regularly. I give pointers once in awhile. Mainly because Im old as Moses and been camping since there was the fist sign of dirt on the ground. The few that I watch don't try to sell you stuff that's become so popular. Not to drop any names but my favorite is Reallybigmonkey1. He makes a lot of his own camping gear. Pretty entertaining with his Georgia accent. Anyway Les is up there with Hiddens, Kochanski. Mears. and Wiseman as modern day godfathers of the bush.
@sams568
@sams568 4 жыл бұрын
For those youtube channels that sell their stuff are okay. They don't stomp their feet and say theirs is the best ever. I know some have turned their channel into a business and more power to them. I think it's great that they found a niche to produce a living. Especially if it's something they love. And what's not to love about the great outdoors. We've become pale people of antibacterial soap. Dirt is what made us healthy back in the day. We had all kinds of stuff growing on our skin. Used to have rusty nails and worms in our pockets. It was always an adventure for our mothers at laundry time to discover oddities, and at times horror, in the pockets of their young children. Ah for the good old days.
