I know Susan as I'm from Blackburn and she's far from how she was portraid in the papers. She's very bright and articulate. she lived for singing and we would see her in the pub that was shown in the show which is called The Bilbardie in Bathgate. she is so Dow to earth and everyone knows her in our area. Sending prayers to Susan after just finding out about her stroke. I just saw the clip of her in the 2023 BGT show with her return with the West End Les Miserables cast. My heart absolutely goes out to you and all who have been bullied because of their appearance. I've been there. My mother was a malignant Narcissist who was paranoid and absolutely obsessed with my appearance, particularly my hair, because she was a bigoted white Southerner and for some unknown reason married my dad, who was half Filipino/Polynesian and half Ashkenazi Jewish. I have dark wavy hair and slightly semitic features. I don't look "white". I don't even know why she had me, it was like the old Star Trek where Spock's Vulcan father Sarek married a human woman and could never deal with his son being "so human" and not "Vulcan enough". My mother constantly ridiculed my long dark wavy hair, telling me continuously that I looked like "a Native" ( horrors!) a "Ubangi" ( I think that's tribe in Africa - I'm not part African) and flatly refusing to let me explore my Jewish heritage. In fact, I didn't even know that my dad was Jewish, she said he was part "Russian" for years. When we rarely visited my Filipino grandfather usually so she could dump my older siblings on him and go on vacation I was told he was "Spanish" when he clearly looked Asian and spoken with a Tagalog, not Spanish, accent. Then, when I reached my teen years, things got even worse. Much worse. She started telling me outright I was "ugly" and that I looked "awful" and claimed that people were "staring at me and whispering". I actually was fairly popular and had a lot of dates. She forced me to get my long beautiful dark wavy hair cut in a really ugly short style so it couldn't curl. For the first time, the other kids started making fun of, not me, but my ugly unflattering haircut. I never had a weight problem, in fact I was a bit underweight, mostly because she was a terrible cook and I didn't want to eat her canned vegetables and dried out overcooked meat. I was not allowed to cook. My sister was even more underweight, and she started to complain that she was too heavy! She mostly left my sister alone because she had blue eyes and light brown hair. My beloved grandmother finally told me sadly that my mother had actually forbidden her from telling me that I had pretty hair ( this is before she chopped it off short). Anyhow, I totally, totally sympathize with you. If Susan went through anything even remotely like what you and I went through, it was a miracle she managed to find the courage to do what she did. Why parents try to destroy their own children, I will never understand. I'm a 63 year old widow and it still hurts. By the way, I never cut my hair again after I left home, and if I leave it down it reaches my waist. And people still compliment me on it.

Dear Ms Boyle, the first time I heard your performance it made me cry. I had always wanted to see La Miserable but with 3 children and a single mother I could not afford it. My husband had gone to Vietnam and through unhappy circumstances divorced. When I heard you sing I felt so happy to be able to hear a part of this beautiful musical. A few years later my granddaughter was in that musical In Glenbard South Highschool in Illinois. I was able to see the whole play and hear that song again. I want to thank you so much for making my wish come true. Your brought magic and heartfelt emotion to that song. Susan went on to give 7 Concerts in Scotland ( I was at 5 ) , 19 in the UK , Ireland, and Wales and I attended 3 and 19 in the US and I attended 5. She was bloody fantastic and she enjoyed every minute of it. She was born to be on stage and feels great once she gets there. As the late Elaine Stritch opened her one woman show with this quote. I am so proud of you for showing the world and letting them all hear your beautiful angelic voice. You have battled as I have for all of my life. Your beautiful voice has showered the world in our century, and forever and given so many of us who have struggled with depression and so many things that we had to fight to survive, You are an amazing person who battled with so much, yet reached the top through your own determination. When I was born I was transferred to an orphanage as my parents did not want me. They took me out at the age of 5 but always beat me and told me I was worthless. In 2014 I won 1st prize internationally for Wildlife and I started to feel for the first time in my life, that I was a worthwhile person. What an amazing woman, a real role model and, as a fellow Scot I am immensely proud of all she has gone through with her nerves because I have been there myself, the depression, low self esteem and feeling as though I could not go out to public places because I felt people laughing at me and thinking I was stupid, so I know the courage it takes. Theres no doubt that Susans voice made her a star , she has the voice of an Angel. I think aswell Susans story touched many ppls lives around the world because they /we all have our own personal struggles & dreams & Susans story/life resignates with so many ppl . whats more amazing about this lovely lady is that she has stayed grounded & humble, Fame, Celebrity has not turned her into a "Diva' like every other top female artist . Susan is a breath of fresh air with an amazing voice, that she had the courage to even go on the show & then stand on stage in front of a very judgemental audience & judges speaks volumes about her beautiful nature, Courage & confidence . Susan reminds me of the first time I heard Mario Lanza perform in one of his films. It was a startling voice that was unexpected. A new book, "A Kid from Philadelphia, Mario Lanza, the Voice of the Poets," captures so much of the same passion that Susan has.
