Susannah Harker was a beautiful Jane, but it goes beyond that. She had a great attention to detail, from the elegance in how she carried herself, to the way she managed to become a properly reserved young lady without being devoid of emotion... even when she is telling Lizzy of Bingley's proposal she is reserved but still manages to make you *feel* how happy she is. She did such a good job on that show.

Nice intelligent lady. No doubt that the 1995 BBC dramatisation was the best version of Pride and Prejudice. Everything about it was as good as possible. The screenplay, the casting, the direction, the musical score, the acting. The chemistry between the two leads, Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, was magical.

Their version was probably nearer to the Austin reality than any other. Jane Austin loved the outdoors which is a huge part of this adaptation along with all the truly authentic details. They really hit the bullseye and everybody responds accordingly!

(I know this old, but so am I!) It is strange how this movie affects so many. I do mean the BBC version only. I can't watch it just once and put it back on the shelf. I have to watch it several times, each time, then put up. I have several different formats, including VHS. There is a "Darcy thing", but I love all the characters, especially how amazing Alison Steadman transforms herself into Fanny Bennet.

I really believe that all of the actors did a wonderful job in portraying their characters. I fell in love with Mr Darcy, of course, and Elizabeth. However, I do agree with you completely with the way that Allison Steadman portrayed Mrs Bennett. She really took it to its most extreme and, honestly, logical place. Her voice, especially, brought the character to full realization.
That version remains the best because of the casting!

I love and love Pride and prejudice, first time I watched it, it was on television and from then on I wanted to watch it over and over again. Later ordered myself a copy of the movie and had all my sisters watching. To date I had to buy another copy, as I given my copy to my sister who asked for it (and now she thrown it away and had to buy another copy and thrown her copy away, now her husband owns a copy). Today I still enjoy watching Pride and Prejudice and will continue to do so. I was amazed how loving sisters can be and wished my sisters were like the actresses Elizabeth and Jane. This sort of story captures ones attention to humanity in the 21st Century. Well played and well thought of. Such an Excellent! Excellent! movie and story
