I've been going through every single Susanne S. song I can find online. I keep hoping to find a song that's not fucking amazing, but every new song I find destroys me completely. This song is absolutely gorgeous. From her voice to the poetry of the lyrics. My favorite lines are "The stars were stains, and heaven and afterglow". What a prolific thing to say, to describe the stars as stains rather than beautiful and gleaming like they most often are depicted in poetry. I also love the line "On every corner a gladiator is begging for another century". Another powerful lyric, comparing a prostitute who is past her prime to a gladiator who is begging for another era to bask in the glory of his conquests. Also the line; "I'll do whatever you want, I'll do whatever you say, God has left me anyway". This brought me to tears. What a profound statement of hopelessness and dispair. Gorgeous lyrics, such beautiful artistry. Lastly, I love the ending: a glimmer of hope sung amidst the depths of dispair which leaves us with an interesting philosophical statement: "The ones who are only living, are the ones who are only dying". This makes me think of the quote "the unexamined life is not worth living". I believe that Susanne is saying here that if you are not truly living your life to its fullest potential, then you are merely dying; refusing to examine the beauty of life. But anyway, this song really cuts deep into my soul and I truly think it is an underrated song.

Susanne is a true gift to the humanity. It's so sad she doesn't understand it. There's a lot of really great, skillful artists with immense talent, but she's way beyond any comparisons, and it's all because of her incredible soul.
@Psilio5 жыл бұрын
What makes you say she doesn't understand it? She refused Norway's highest musical award (Spelemannsprisen) since it was for females only. She wanted it to be for all artists, and that's what it is today. She's one of Norway's most famous artists, and also famous around the world with her cooperation with M83 on the soundtrack for the movie 'Oblivion'. Check that out, btw, it's so good :) Especially the live version on the Jimmy Kinnel show. And also famous everywhere from her cooperations with Røyksopp, ofc.
