My dad was a fisherman, he died in 2015, we were living in different cities, our relationship was never the dream one all I had was memories from the past from our country house, but I loved him. I didn't have his future but I had his past, I had those old negatives, I used to watch them growing up, he always enjoyed nature and fishing, he had a german shepherd. When I got the news I was listening to this song and I was high af. It was just a coincidence, I always loved Royskopp but this was a coincidence. It was 2015 9th of Jan when we lost him. Since 2015 I come back here every year to see what happened. So thank you for this, I couldn't have asked for something better. He was cool all above even though I never got to live with him, I lived him

@@uamiable i am training my daughter follow her curiosity and wonder so she will always be thinking and learning, to hone a sharp wit. I remind her to appreciate and take care of her body, encourage her to stay active and moving, seeking adventures, so she can be a confident warrior. She feels she has the soul/essence of a wolf, i let her know how special she is to me and how impressed and proud i am of who she is. She relates to me well as we have agreed that i have the soul/essence of a fox. (although when she was 2 or 3 she told me one day without any prompting that i was a penguin and her mom was a bear, and i found the judgement incredibly perceptive and wise, so i guess i am something of a fox-penguin, or a penguin who wants to be a fox...idk.. but i digress) For now we are very close and she thinks I am the coolest guy in the world, i am really lucky for that because i am not actually all that great, i am quite flawed. she is 9 now, but i know in just a few years as she enters the goofy and sometimes confusing place between child and adult she could grow to resent and/or reject me. idk what i would do without my eager, happy little warrior philosopher queen. i don't know anything about your life, but i am sorry to hear you are estranged from your father. that kind of thing can hurt, no matter how much you try to shrug it off. although there may be distance between you now, if he raised you to be his faerie queen warrior, it sounds like there is a genuine bond between you that could still be rehabilitated. everyone is a fallible human, we all mess up, give in to temptation, surrender to our demons, and hurt the people we love. cuz life can be rough. some parents are really awful, and should never have had kids nor do they earn the title "dad" or "mom", but i think every single person needs to be able to forgive their parents at some point, for their own sake. holding animosity towards your parents is like holding on to a hot coal, you are only burning yourself. maybe things won't change much, you might still remain estranged, but at least you would unburden yourself from carrying some of that weight that can eventually crush a person. you say it is his choice you are estranged so maybe you have already forgiven him and it just is what it is, but from one father to a random daughter out in the world, i love you, i hope you are doing well and i hope someday you can repair some of those tears in your heart. i love my girl so much, she is truly my life, and she helps keep my world fresh, beautiful, and wonderous. thank you for letting me share.

Always thought that her voice has something of a natural/universal force. It just seems so powerful and effortless to me. Maybe it's also the (interesting, to say the least) kind of songs and lyrics she sings that make me feel like that, but yeah. Actually, I'd say it's one of those voices that can truly make me hate my own voice... good thing I always try to avoid singing anyway, lol -..-"
@hawkstrike186 жыл бұрын
Personally, I didn't use 'interesting' to refer to her voice in this case, but I'm not so sure why you'd underestimate it like that :p I feel what you said is more true about some of the mainstream pop artists, and not even always ...since what they tend to sing is also to blame, usually. On second thought, I know it's your opinion (based on this song alone, more likely) but if you had listened to more of her stuff and were objective, I think you wouldn't imply her voice is kind of boring. Sure, I can see why you don't find it truly rich but saying it's not interesting is similar to me saying another artist's voice is bad just because I don't like it (btw, it's just an example, don't take every word literally). To me it might be less engaging or even annoying but that doesn't mean it's not interesting in general. Well, I guess. Can't really think of an example right now. But there has to be :p And it always depends on the music/lyrics and personal taste, obviously. Try to recall a time when an artist you didn't like at all sung something different and you ended up liking their voice, for once. Guess I tried too hard to describe my point of view again, but hey... hopefully this comment fulfilled its purpose at least, dunno.
@hawkstrike186 жыл бұрын
If you've listened to many of her songs and you feel like that, fine by me :) It's not even that important. What matters is whether you can enjoy the music or not, right? You know what? Could it be that you don't appreciate simplicity as much as you should...? Because, personally, I prefer listening to artists who aren't ostentatious or something (with their singing but not only), and I can't stand singers who sound like they're trying too hard, like they're shouting, etc. Or is it just her voice? If so, yes, it has to be a matter of taste. Well, whatever xD Again, just enjoy (what you can)!

The symbolism in this video is mind blowing. Three parts to pay attention to: The old man, the dog, the birds. The old man is a symbol of the god Odin, often depicted as an old man with a beard carrying a spear (or in this case, a gun). He presided over the land of Valhalla. Odin was often accompanied by a wolf. The birds symbolize Huginn and Muninn, which are a pair of ravens. Their names translate as "thought" (Huginn) and "memory" (Muninn). Every morning, the two ravens would set out and fly all over the world. Every night they would return to Odin and bring him knowledge and news from his kingdom. In the Poetic Edda, Odin expresses concern that the birds will not come back from their daily flight. I believe this video is about that. The old man's daughter has died. The song is from the voice of the daughter/bird, trying to tell him what she remembers from her flight. She remembers the flash of white, turning to black, and being pulled out to sea. She remembers her death. But the old man doesn't want to accept that, and every day he sets out to look for her. You'll notice that the first bird in the video immediately catches his attention, only to be followed by a look of disappointment. Just like Odin in Edda, every parent fears for the safety of their children. The old man doesn't want to accept that the worst has happened, so every night, he returns to his throne, watching and hoping for her return. His faithful wolf remains at his side, but he his lost without his birds who brought him knowledge and memories. The bird is herself now just a memory, and the great Odin is now a broken man.

The song is so beautiful...this video made me tear up. My interpretation isn't much different than others. I think the man lost his daughter in some tragic way. He remembers her as a young child. Perhaps the older version of her represents the age she died, or the age she might be if she hadn't died as a child. How sad it must be to live alone, with only memories of a lost loved one to hold onto. I can't imagine that...The world is so beautiful, but also filled with pain and death.

To me, this song is about being one with nature to the point that nature nurtures you and saves you from trauma. I feel this meaning so deeply when I hear the song that I overflow with feelings of gratitude. I grew up across the street from a state park and I frequented the woods there and the shorelines when I felt unsafe or lonely. Susanne and Royksopp really captured an emotional connection to the elements that is otherwise indescribable.

This song is written in honour to the Utoya victims in Norway 22.7.2011 - and the video is bringing tears to my eyes... It is so emotional. I will never forget that day, and I will never forget how we met this with love and thousands of roses standing hand in hand regardless of religion, political view, living in a Villa or on the streets.. The expressions on Paul Michael's face are so moving. Sorrow, grief, tenderness, longing, acceptance, numbness, loneliness. He conveys the deepest emotion without a single word -- it's incredible. An amazingly talented artist, and the same can be said for Lauren Rothery's direction. I feel like crying, I feel sad for people I've lost, I even feel sad for people I haven't lost but will lose one day.

this song makes me cry almost every time i listen...powerful. My interpretation of the song is that the sea is the unknown future, the potential for possibility, and the abyss. All of us get sucked up by time and we must persevere thru hardship and pain.... "Darkness killed the light". "River flows inside of me" is the inevitability of time moving forward and change. I interperate the video to be a father who misses his daughter. Maybe she is gone from his life, as all children must leave home eventually. Maybe she is dead or in distress, but the emotion is clear...time will continue forward and there is nothing you can do and you will be hurt by the world, and those you love will be hurt, but life is beautiful...i remember running to the sea. perfectly sublime.

This song and video are so sad. If I'm not in an emotionally strong mood, it makes me cry every time. My God, to spend the rest of your life thinking about your child who died in an accident you were part of -- fault or not, it doesn't help -- it's all the same. I can't imagine living with that constant pain. Video tears me up inside.

My husband is from Norway... as in he speaks the language itself. He, himself, says that no... no they don't match up. Yeah, they both came from Old Norse, but the closest language that would match would be Russian. Also, Icelandic isn't "more or less" Old Norse. It is, in fact, a branch of the German languages- although they all did originate from Old Norse. :)
