Swagat Nepal has good intentions I guess but forgets that the MCC agreement between Napal & USA is not one between equals. One of the richest & most powerful nation is providing a USD 500 million grant to help Nepal build its electricity transmission & highway infrastructure. A poor nation like Nepal can either reject such free funds for such nation building work or swallow its pride and accept it keeping in mind its long term interests. Remember even more powerful, economically & militarily, nations such as the UK, France, West German, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Greece etc agreed to US economic support under the Marshall Plan after WWII - I'm sure the agreement wasn't equal too. The immunity provided to US govt. officials, including MCC staff, is similar to the one already provided to most US diplomatic staff at the US Embassy in Nepal - so Swagat shouldn't make too big a deal about it. The Indian govt. consent requirement was more objectionable but once again beggars aren't choosers. If we Nepalis want more respect than we have to develop Nepal & behave in a manner that demands respect.

Disagree much with your statement. It is an agreement between two sovereign Nation. Sovereignty is always equal, rich or bigger country do not have high level of Sovereignty over the small or poor Nation. The agreement is not about size and money they own.

@@nickkashyap-rt8bo This is the typical response I had anticipated. I agree with you on the definition of sovereignty but can we afford such 'levels' of sovereignty? I already referred to the Marshall Plan where even way more powerful countries than Nepal like the UK & France had to take aid from the US under the letters terms. Even in the EU, member states have surrendered a lot of their national authority to the European authority. False pride. False sovereignty.

@@UmeshRai-i2s Its pity that people don't understand the difference between "Sovereignty compromise" and an "Agreement between two countries". Agreement should always be two ways exchange, Was Nepal in war with US, that it had to surrender to the terms of MCC for a truce? No, that was not the case. Marshall plan was the context of WW-2, therefore to stop the influence of communism those countries, war torn, did accepted the aid. Also, it wasn't difficult for them because the same white people live on both side of the pod. BTW, for Europeans they want to eliminate the border, its their way, Nepal is not ready for such Philosophy.

@@nickkashyap-rt8bo The way I see it we're one of the poorest nations in the world - already 2nd poorest in Asia after Afghanistan. Not much better off than war ravaged Great Britain or France when they accepted American aid from their allies after WWII. Our fraudulent leaders blind us with nationalistic rhetoric & we always fall for it like sheep. What did Nepal lose by agreeing to the terms of the US$ 500 million MCC grant agreement to build our electricity transmission grid + motorable highways (both desperately needed)? This in a time when we've already witnessed much richer / stronger countries like Germany, Italy etc give up their national currencies, boundaries & passports to form a common economic + political + military bloc like the EU for their own good. We need help to improve and for this we sometimes need to eat humble pie instead of acting as if the whole world is out to rob & annex Nepal. Anyway you think our senior politicians & bureaucrats wouldn't sell our country who run this country wouldn't sell Nepal & Nepalis down the river for a few million US dollars? Talk of sovereignty that sends it's young men & women to slave away in foreign lands for basic living, even die for foreign armies in foreign wars, is bull shit.
