Suspect involved in South Bloomfield, multi-county police chase identified

30-year-old Felix Sherard of Columbus was identified by police after he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Monday. Authorities say Sherard shot himself after a police chase through Ross, Pickaway, and Madison counties.
During the chase, a South Bloomfield police officer struck a tractor-trailer at the intersection of London and Main streets in downtown Mt. Sterling at about 11 a.m. That officer is said to be okay.

I don't think it would stick; at least it shouldn't. The cop came to a near stop at every other light except that one. He was speeding in town where there were buildings obscuring the truck's vision until it was too late to stop. The cop should have waited to ensure the intersection was clear. They also had other cops tracking him since they did spike his tires, so there was no need to speed through town. I am all for catching a criminal like that guy but he was passing vehicles at double or triple the limit and going around curves at high speed, he could have killed someone. There was a dump truck he passed about half way through the chase that hit it's brakes like he was stopping for the cop, but as he got past it there was a white pickup waiting to turn left on a side street. I doubt the cop saw him and I doubt he saw the cop until he came around the dump truck, I think it was dumb luck that he didn't turn and get t-boned at 90. It was reckless, but not wreck-less.
