@Alsebra15 күн бұрын
It very well could be that, but I also think that it's possible he's acting like this so others can get away with other things...acting like this takes more COs away from focusing on the other inmates and, based on his charges, he's likely to be in there for a while, so minor infractions aren't anything for him.

I did feel bad for the last girl trying to steal diapers and wipes for her baby. The others deserved to be there. I would have a hard time, if I were a business owner, pressing charges on people stealing necessities (within reason of course). If you need food to survive, and who doesn't, it's not going to break the bank to give them a meal. If everyone did it, yes, it would be hard on a business, but not everyone is doing it. I've even seen hospitals press charges for patients who have just been discharged going to the cafeteria and steal a meal. To me, that's wrong. If they were still technically a patient, they would feed them for no charge since they charge the insurance for food. But since he was eating immediately after his discharge, he gets charged with theft of food. Just wrong!
@StJabo8 ай бұрын
I also felt for this last girl. It seems the social services in NY had failed her. It sounded like she got a list of further resources that could help. But, honestly if I was in her shoes and I didn't know about those other resouces and had to choose between taking $15 worth of diapers (which probably cost the store $9) from WalMart and not providing for my child, I'd make her choice. It's absolutely wrong on every level, but none of Sam's heirs are going to lose their $10 million dollar house and "the Wasteland" is brutal. Most of us have never been so desperate.

It's not these officers' fault any of these people got arrested. Every time someone is brought in, they just need to get them through the process -- for the suspect's benefit. If someone is too dim to understand this and a.) too stupid to not run their mouth and b.) so pathetic that they try to fight back, then these are the logical consequences of their own bad choices. The officers *need* to maintain control over inmates. They're also human and they react to aggressive behaviors in a normal human way. If you're dumb enough to mouth off and struggle, then you should expect to get your head bonked. They're lucky: in some countries, they would not get off so easy.

"Don't cry, you're just going to be here for a few days." That's the problem with jails these days: they're one step below going to an all-expenses-paid resort. There is not punishment, no shame, no deterrence in any of it. A tap on the wrist and you're off to keep doing what got you arrested in the first place. Let's cut the crap and take about 98% of the laws off the books and save the taxpayers a lot of money in the process. "Do whatever the hell you want to, I don't care" says the law system.
