You probably love it because it is a natural continuation from the V. What this means is that it gives the song a feeling of "neverending", like a memory that you attach To throughout your life and is always there...many songs work this way (mostly songs from the 70's and 80's which always end with fade-out)

For those wondering, technically, sus-2 and sus-4 are essentially the same only inverted differently. Their construction is also uniquely simple: take a note, add a note a 5th up, add another note another 5th up. Now play with the inversions. They can also disguise modal shifts

Do you have to replace the third? Because on guitar, a regular C major chord has two E notes. Would you just make the first E down to a D and then just make the high E a G for a Csus2? Same idea with Csus4? Edit: I assume if you keep the third in the chord, then it's not suspended, and it's just a C2 or C4. Is this correct?
@WriteASong
@WriteASong 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that would make an open position Csus2 on guitar. If you keep the 3rd in and add the second note it is often called an add9 chord. There's more info on that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGjaqZmjgs95o7c

Very poor explanation of how and why the suspended chord is constructed. You misunderstand or do not give proper emphasis to the historic background of the suspension mechanism. Also at 1:01 to 1.10 you are incorrect, simply stripping a triad of its third does not turn the remaining notes into a suspended chord or anything that can be described as being suspended. The modern nomenclature of a suspended chord is derived by considering IN ISOLATION the second part of the 3-part suspension mechanism, which is, preparation, suspension and resolution.

They are missnamed chords. Functionally they are not the 4th and 2nd notes of the scale they are the 3rd and tonic. They should be called Sus3 and sus 1. My reasoning - is not the 4th sitting there, but enharmonic position with function of the raised third that must resolve down to the triad.
