I discovered old time radio shows in the late '70s. Back then, the sound quality ranged from good to unlistenable. And they were not easy to come by and costly enough per L.P. or cassette to make acquiring a collection expensive. That has gradually changed over the years, and now days, there are many thousands of them on KZbin and the sound is very good most of the time. I listen to them for many reasons. Some are simply very well told stories. Sometimes, they are just relaxing, as if allowing me to slip back to simpler times or to get a glimpse of what entertained my parents. And quite often, I use them to relax me to sleep. I know that many people have put a lot of time and money into collecting them, restoring them and making them available to the rest of us, probably more for fun than profit. Thanks to all of you, whoever you are.

If you're still listening and haven't discovered them yet, give "Lights Out", "Quiet Please", and "The Hall of Fantasy" a try. I think you'll dig them.

As a former librarian, I would have people calling all the time with contest questions. Man of War person needed to do his own research 😅 Myrna Loy was a gem. Loved her in the Thin Man series ❤

The only people who don't recognize that this sounds exactly like Myrna Loy are people who are unfamiliar with the sound of Myrna Loy's voice.

Air Date:09.20.1945 ( September 20, 1945) Plot:+ "The Library Book". Sponsored by: Roma Wines. A silly story about a prudish librarian who deduces a kidnap plot from a torn page in, "Gone with The Wind." The program opening is slightly upcut. + When Mrs Rednick brings her library book Gone With The Wind back two days late it costs her 4 cents. She asks the librarian if she knows what happens on page 931. It seems that a page has been deliberately ripped out. Prudence, the librarian decides to investigate further and discovers that words on the following page had been underlined. Prudence suspects it is some kind of code as she has an odd feeling, a definite premonition that something is wrong… www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/thriller/suspense/library-book-1945-09-20

LIEUTENANT BOOKMAN of the NYPLPD is obviously family-treesy with hard-line Miss ("ILSA!") Roberts. Her coworker (do you need to own your own cow to be a coworker?) Prudence may not be in the biological lineage, but she's sleuth material. That these two are translucently involved ("Come to bed, Prudence!") gives me enough to posit little Johnny hanging out a lot with Aunties Missy and Prudence, learning to smoke with Pall Malls between the facing bookshelves (Prudence, fiction; Missy non-) of their East Side bachelorette efficiency, apprehending from both but leaning toward Missy's This Is Gonna* Hurt But It's For Your Own Good nature indeed his own heritage. Thus, JOHN BOOKMAN, LIBRARY COP! Tooling around the endless curve of Police Street, watching for bookish offenders or--- saints preserve us! ---bookless: probably a victim nearby, leaves blowing. * "GOING TO"!
