My mother would have been 14yo and may have been allowed to stay up to listen to these broadcasts, but if this was in CA, maybe not time difference-wise. She was in Toronto Canada. I love all these old radio plays

Many of these radio shows exist today because transcription discs were sent through the AFRS (Armed Forces Radio Services) for broadcast to the troops overseas in addition to the local airing of these radio shows. Many of these discs were later stored and luckily are now in the hands of restoration experts although a huge number of the live broadcasts were not saved.. Many of the local broadcasts were live and oftentimes no transcription discs were made or saved. Thanks for the AFRS transcription discs or we may not have these radio shows today.

When I was in grammar school our reading teacher told us the book is always better than the movie. I agree. It's called theater of the mind. Same with these old radio shows. I listen and a few days later I'm thinking about an episode I've heard and I think as if I'd seen a movie yet only the voice and sound effects are used. I love ,The Whistler, The Great Gildersleeve,and Richard Diamond Private Eye.

Whatever happened to Roma Wines? Made in California for enjoyment throughout the World! Maybe some of the empty bottles(hopefully still with the original labels) can be found for sale on Ebay. Elsa Maxwell certainly seemed to like the taste of Roma Wines!

A newspaper article from the Lodi News Sentinel reports the sale of Roma Wines to Guild Wineries & Distilleries at the end of 1970 Guild Wineries purchased Roma for twelve million dollars then sold the vineyards, brands and trademarks, supplies and inventory to Buttes Gas & Oil Co. International Inc. for 4 million. Buttes Gas & Oil became Crescent Petroleum an Oil and Gas company founded in 1971 that is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates.
