I install some OEM rubber bushings and discuss the installation and removal of Poly bushings as well. Using the Astro tool it makes bushing installation much easier, especially for the ones on the vehicles and leaf springs.

I kind of regret installing some of the poly Energy suspension parts so when it came to the leaf spring bushings and shackles I went Moog. I may switch back to rubber on some of the Energy stuff, it's squeaky and kind of stiff, I've heard race car guys use it sometimes, or maybe rock crawling? maybe it's good with those applications but I'm not impressed with the ride compared to stock. After replacing the leaf bushings it may be a lot better and dealable but I may switch back to stock esp if I can find moog parts. Thanx for the vid, I borrowed the ball joint tool from the counter so hopefully I'll be able to remove and replace these. It's an '88 and the bushings look original so I'm sure it's gonna be fun! I'm gonna do what you did and add lots of antiseize for the next guy. If we all did that the world would be such a better place I'm down for a movement lol.

Factory rubber bushings do not have enough movement or give false spring rate, No full range of motion, that’s why I chose poly bushings.

A better way to remove them is to heat the housing cherry red....... put them in a vice and use another bushing about the same size. They will slide out !

I dont agree on the bushing torque. other than the sway bar links all of the bushings have a inner tube that the bolt slides in to,the tube is longer than the bushing so unless the bolt presses in to the tube it will always spin inside the tube and the bushing will not ever torque. Now your leaf spring video was very educational.

GEARBOX GARAGE I like the exchange. So if I tighten the bolt, the two sides on the shackle will pinch that sleeve, correct? That’s where it keeps it from spinning on the bolt. Why else would the sleeve be notched on the ends? Same with poly. The sleeve turns in the poly, not the bolt right? I could be wrong.

@@MattsGarage tighten the nut will make the sides of the shackle and bolt/nut become "one" but....... Ha I am wrong lol ,and I just did a leaf spring lift for a customer and I even did a video on it. I commented that over tighten the bolts effected the movement of the parts greatly.

I know that Total Chaos Fab explicitly says to always tighten with vehicle weight for the control arm bushings. They even put a video together to explain this, because people were destroying bushings and complaining to them ha!
