It's simple physics that says "If the ski can put less force into your foot, then your foot can also put less force into the ski."
@panganaranga8 күн бұрын
But it could also give you more contact, like on a full suspension bike. To be honest, it looked like it does not do anything. In the slowmo I cannnot see a lot of damping. Maybe they need to work in the geometry a bit. I would lay the damper flat and just one for one ski. I mean, they are built to catch 100kg each. Or build it with rc parts.

Not necessarily a bad thing if you think about it-think shock absorbers in Atomic boots, rubber pads under Stockli WRT bindings, rubber layers used in many skis but yeah, disconnecting your boot from the ski in this way is plain dumb.

I will tell you - I was sweating like 5 turns in. The weight really throws you off.
@packratty17 күн бұрын
It's not the weight, it's the fact that you have no edge control. It looked exactly like you had soft shitty boots two sizes too big. Way back in the 90s I gave something weird a whirl and bought Volant stainless steel skis (190 cm) and this was still in the days of skinny straight skis, rhey were so heavy they hurt my shoulder carrying them to the parking lot. But they were the smoooooooothest, most confidence inspiring thing ever. They held in ice like on rails, they plowed through crud like it was groomed corduroy, they never ever chattered. And as long as you were patient, turn initiation happened with the mere thought of lifting a toe, and then (given they weren't shaped) as long as you ahd good balance you just settled in and enjoyed the deeply carving ride. Where the weight mattered, and was indeed terrible, was in anything that required quickness - do a run of moguls and you were done for the day. Maybe couldn't walk the next day. So the weight of this suspended nightmare is not the biggest problem here -- the disconnection is. I clicked on this because I can't imagine how this could *not* feel outta control, as if your boots don't fit. Oh well.

Since as far back as the 1980s when I got into racing there are gimmicks like this that come out every so often. They add weight that ski designers have not accounted for in the ski design so it mess with vibration dampening and swing weight and many other aspects of ski behaviour. Then, lots of them have mounting points like this one that are way out in front and back of the bindings - this creates a LOOOOOOOONNNG flat spot in the middle of your ski so flex is crap. Add in a giant tower that can jab you in your butt on landings... sorry, this one's definitely not for me.

@eutoob19 күн бұрын
The whole purpose/experience of skiing is carving turns like a sports car. Why would you want to deaden the responsiveness and make it like riding a cruise ship? Lifting the boot so high above the ski massively reduces the quickness from edge to edge and now you have to exagerrate knee anglulation to get the same edge angle on the slope- which is entirely the wrong technique for carving. That being said, this device may have applications for adaptive skiing athletes where shock absorption is needed to prevent further injury.
