this was an absolute masterpiece, especially for the horror genre. I felt like I was under hypnosis the entire time, it was like I was being forced to watch something I wasn't supposed to watch. I was enthralled by every scene, every detail, every shot every sound every visual. There were scenes where I literally couldn't breathe, and I was just staring at the screen. A horror movie hasn't made me feel like that in a long time. Definitely worth the watch.

I concur! The acting was also remarkable esp. Tilda Swinton in her roles. Madame Blanc was simulteaneously creepy and congenial in ... prepossessing way. THIS is how you do a remake. Go in a completely different stylistic direction than the original film to give yours its own identity, yet keep the general unsettling atmosphere that made said original film work so well. On top of that, expand upon the characters and world in a way that works and - there you go! A remake that not only stands on its own, but is worthy of being placed alongside the film it’s based on.

As a big horror film enthusiast, I can tell you straight up Hereditary & The Witch are two of the best modern horror films of the past 10 years. Both fall in line with what Ti West did with The House of the Devil. All 3 were incredible in developing an ever-increasing suffocation and overwhelming sense of hopelessness (in a good, horror-movie watching kind of way). I know many who felt Hereditary was overrated, but the movie fell victim to the type of excessive & unnecessary pre-release hype all too common these days. This is the danger Suspiria is in right now, because this trailer is one of the creepiest I’ve seen in a long time. You see inspiration of Kubrick all through it.
@adam-ll1yf6 жыл бұрын
Beau Hinely I fear the same thing. I don’t think Amazon is trying to hype it up as much as A24 did with Hereditary. That is one of A24’s biggest flaws, they market niche horror films to mainstream audiences which is why they often have high critic scores and low audience scores. Still, Hereditary was their biggest debut of a horror film, but how much longer can it go on? Amazon seems to know what their movie is and who to sell it to.
@beauhinely69056 жыл бұрын
Adam Taucher I’m hoping you’re right about Amazon. Truly looks like a great horror film from the trailer. Can’t say I blame A24 though: I think they go in to the marketing phase aware of possible overhype. I’m guessing they’d rather have that kind of problem than having to deal with failure to get the word out on a good film due to poor marketing, which is something a lot of studios seem to struggle with.
@mohamadafifazizizaidi56256 жыл бұрын
i'm too kinda worried about that overhype-before-release-only-to-get-audiences-disappointed fiasco. thats why i carefully chose to do 3 things set in mind: 1. dont hype too much, 2. but have faith, and 3. sit back & enjoy the ride(movie)

@ceceliam90145 жыл бұрын
I'd rather see the Oscars divided by genre than by gender. That gender category has been used to hide the fact that women so rarely make up leading roles for decades, because there's always an Oscar for lead actress (usually given to a supporting actress to a male lead). Comedy, horror, animated voice work, and dramatic roles should all be given their due for the different skill ranges they require. Rather than gender classifications.

I’m so glad they didn’t copy and paste like Other remakes. This version is definitely more grim and evil. Both are great. Don’t compare. Just love both! You could tell Luca Guadagnino put his heart and soul into this film and it shows. He’s been wanting to make Suspiria since he was a kid. Bravo on a great retelling Luca! Go see it everyone! Don’t believe the bad reviews calling it the next “Mother!”. That movie didn’t explain crap and left you hanging. This is wayyyyyy better.

It's a good film, but the common complaint is that Luca overstuffed it with subtext. The Holocaust, the Cold War, The Red Army. It's a bit much for a horror flick, but the movie was terrific regardless.

@@alexpilgrim8248 - The subtext was about driving the point about extreme politics and how it compares with the coven and how situations/plots don't work out as intended for the "extremists" in the film. The desired result backfired with traumatizing results for the characters AND the audience. Those that were offended by the films' imagery and themes, are better off not watching REAL horror - which should have disturbing characters, themes, imagery, and subject matter. The "red scene" was shot in that way to avoid an NC-17 rating, no doubt about it. It was quite the spectacle and twisted.

@seanwilliam28565 жыл бұрын
After watching this film 5x already (yes i'm that dedicated to movies, and it never fails to amaze me) I'm confident to say that this movie is fantastic from start to finish. Luco guadanino really make this his own "cover" rather than a remake, and making sure that if you half-assed watched this movie you will forget it. but that's the real beauty of this film, you really need to understand every nook and cranny of detail that it has so that you can understand it even more, and the creep factor ramps up from beginning until the end, and by the time you're done you'll need a good breather just to process everything. Highly recommend going in this movie without knowing the original movie since that movie is it's own thing.

Color palettes brought a danger to the original film. While not directly copying it.
