Fair Fashion ambassador Marina Spadafora invites us to rethink fashion as a driver for human development and the important role of the fashion industry and consumer preference in sustainability, human development and growth. A Fair Fashion ambassador around the world, Marina has deep roots in Fashion having had her own brand and collaborated with Ferragamo, Prada, Miu Miu and Marni and Aspesi.
She has been the creative director of Auteurs du Monde, the Fair Trade brand of Altromercato, working with artisans all over the world.
Marina is a professor of ethical fashion at prestigious academies in Italy and abroad.
Her work has always included a strong focus on social issues and ecology, believing that ethics and aesthetics can coincide. Her motto is "Fashion with a Mission".
She works to bring development to emerging countries through her FWAM, Fashion with a Mission, platform.
She is also the Italian national coordinator of Fashion Revolution.
She received the United Nations Women Together Award in 2015 in New York and has given TEDx talks on sustainable fashion in 2014 and in 2021.
In 2020 she wrote the book “The revolution starts from your wardrobe” with Luisa Ciuni published by Solferino Libri. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Yes Y and Z generations want change and a sustainable approach to fashion, but cannot afford it and are forced into fast fashion. This is a great first step initiative though

Not true. Everyone can afford sustainable fashion. It is second hand. Second hand fashion is available at every price point and for every style identity. No one is forced into fast fashion. Every purchase is a choice.

Hi! My name is Enigma, I’m an emerging alternative designer and fashion writer. I’m curious… How is the natural rubber latex shortage affecting the designers using it?

After watching this video, whenever I see clothing ads on Facebook, I comment on the ad post with the following: "Before I buy, I have a few questions: Who makes these clothes? Are they being paid fair living wages? Are the fabrics made from sustainable materials? And what happens to these clothes if they don't sell? Does the company dump them in a landfill so they can't be resold and instead kill our planet faster? 🤔" Some brands ignore my comment, some respond with an auto-generated message that doesn't answer my questions. But a few will actually engage with me and share what they're doing and take my feedback back to their companies. Depending on how the brands respond determines which brands I support. I encourage everyone to join me in this simple act so together, we can boost the demand signal for transparency in this market! 💕

and it is a big luxury, especially in the third world countries, it's a huge torture chain starting from the workers and ending with the government restrictions and huge taxes and obstacles they put in investors' road every single day. I hope one day the new generations can actually do something to change it. I know a woman who has been working in a clothes factory for 4 years working 12 hours everyday with minimum wage salary, after having her 2 babies she had to change to cleaning houses, it makes more money to feed her babies, she has amazing skills and she has a university degree, which makes you think of how it is really a luxury in this era to be able to afford the minimum and be treated as a human being at the same time.

Also, since you are in States, come to Boston and engage with your HKS alma matter . I think it would be great to engage with you in person as a fellow IR and diplomacy student.

Sublime, but are they also making models for mass production sustainability? That is the most dire need. They need support in what they do, but mostly for making sustainable mass produced clothes.

She is preaching to the choir, this speech changes nothing and will not promote change because those who thinks like her have already done that whereas the common population does not care.
