a decade behind on Europe? Half a century comes closer. In 1955 the Netherlands claimed 375 square mile from the sea. The city of Almere is most certainly always walkable. And on top of that they also have a large network of bicycle roads. (as does the rest of the country) Its strikes me as odd that you would consider a neighborhood retailer within 5 minutes of walking. But not one within 10 minutes of cycling. Oh and the new railway station of Utrecht will include 35,000 bike parking spaces
