Courts are fundamental to sustaining democracy, but a judiciary saddled with judges that lack integrity, or a judiciary perceived as lacking integrity negatively impacts democratic development. As the 2nd Hon. Justice Niki-Tobi Biennial Symposium in December 2023, indicated, judges have a clarion call to sustain democracy, and they need the support of lawyers. The Bar’s perception and representation of the Bench defines judicial integrity. So, it is a combined effort of judges and lawyers to build/rebuild public confidence in courts and ensure judicial integrity. Therefore, this webinar creates a platform for judges and lawyers, to discuss the roles of the Bar and Bench in sustaining democracy through judicial integrity. It will also discuss the dilemmas that judges and lawyers encounter in performing these combined roles. Accordingly, distinguished speakers from different countries will discuss their experiences and give suggestions on this ‘Tom and Jerry’ relationship.
