@@hoosierproud7718 yes, that's why I also said homemade sofrito. Sofrito is vegetables and spices including garlic blended together. We all have ar own way of making it it usually lots of it when we make it. Some is put in the fridge to be use regularly and the rest is put in the freezer. But I tell you sofrito is the base ingredient. Also we make it with different kinds of beans put into it as another ingredient. You can find diy's here on KZbin, Puertoricans food is very tasty, Hispanic food in general is.

Many dogs love some variety. I always buy canned vegetables and beans for a bargain price in the autumn. Our store always has a big sale every year. Our dogs love canned beans, peas, and green beans, (maybe a quarter can added to the kibble) for a treat. They love plain oatmeal too; once in a while they all get a bowl. I get enough canned goods each autumn to last the next year. I save a lot of money, and always have something for a neighbor in need.

This is Survival food nothing fancy, buy one flat of 14 different chunky soups and several boxes or bags of instant rice, make the rice for two or four and pour the hot soup over it, this makes 168 meals or 5.6 months of meals for two, if you double it you’ll have 336 meals, almost a years worth, Like I said it’s survival food but you’ll be eating. If you have canned potatoes you can add extra potatoes to stretch it too. Once you have your survival food you can expand to nicer meals, but this will get you started. Buy 25 pound bags of oatmeal or cream of wheat, 25 lbs of sugar and 25 or 50 lbs of powdered milk now you have breakfast covered. ** this is something most people don’t know powdered milk and instant milk are not the same, you can drink instant milk as soon as it’s made, powdered milk has to be refrigerated for 8 hours to reconstitute, but it taste much better than instant milk, most people can’t tell the difference between powdered milk and fresh milk in taste test, add some chocolate quick or strawberry quick and you just moved into normal life.

I went to a local discount grocery store today. I found numerous pallets of vegetables available. I bought about $50 worth of staples for use during the winter. I have dehydrated numerous vegetables and fruits for the winter as well. Paper products and cleaning products seem to still be in short supply; at least on the grocery shelves at discount stores and name brand stores. I think I am good with paper and cleaning stuff. The duration of the surge of virus cases determines whether I am ready for an extended "stay-at-home" time. It all remains to be seen. Take care everyone.

I stock extra food by keeping an eye on the food sale ads, and buy extra of what's on sale - store brand mac & cheese, canned veggies, tomatoes and beans, pasta. I can't remember the last time I bought a regular priced can of veggies or bag of pasta. At Dollar Tree I like the tuna & chicken salad kits. They come with a small can of the meat (already mixed with mayo, etc.) and some crackers. The meat is enough for a sandwich . I buy them when I'm camping for a simple meal that doesn't have to be refrigerated, and keep them for emergencies.

Pap and grandma had a back porch they enclosed for the winter with storm windows. The weather hit that side of the house pretty hard. At the beginning of november it was usually at or below freezing regularly. This is when they started what they called the winter pantry. Theyd put up a couple big tables and the baking would start. She made cookies, pies, pumpkin and zucchini breads ahead of the holidays. Everything went on the back porch. Most of the stuff was in big tins or disposable aluminum trays. If she knew it was to be brutal, she even had casseroles and sides out there. Twice they had a raccoon try to get in, but pap was a good shot! Thought this might help somebody in some way. Keep safe and sound!

I realize I'm in Texas, as far north as the Dallas burbs, but canned mango [as well as papaya etc] might be found in the canned foods [also canned and bottled fruit juice drinks] in the "Mexican/Hispanic" grocery aisles in our major grocery stores, not in with the mainstream canned fruit/veg sections. Not sure how you're using mango but if blended as the fruit juice into a smoothie rather than a whole fruit plate, that might work. But here every smaller grocery store, is much more prevalent than larger food chains, incl huge WM!

Heat the vinegar and water and add 1/2 c Dawn makes a heavy duty cleaner. Need soft scrub? Dawn and baking soda. Windows? What do you clean your jar lids with before putting the lids on? Toilet bowl cleaner? One cup vinegar and a squirt of Dawn - add some baking soda if you have hard water. Canning supplies (jars, lids, and other supplies.) Meats are also in short supply or un available like certain types of steaks and other beef items. Tip: If are running short on yeast, you can make your dough and take some of that dough and put it in the freezer. Then you can let it thaw out and reintroduce it in your new dough and treat it as your starter yeast. This is what the big bakeries do when making sour dough bread to keep the same variety of yeast stock.

My pantry is built around pastas, soup ingredients, and potatoes. Because I can add dried veggies and canned or dried meats to those super fillers. I bought a 50 lb box of potatoes each for me and 6 other relatives and friends from a local grower. He sells millions of spuds in the Midwest. He sells to the public every year, the potatoes are graded for size, they are clean enough to eat but I rewash them. They keep well on the floor by the inside wall of my attached garage in Northern WI until late April when they begin to wrinkle and sprout. 50 lbs cost me $16.00. About half the price in the store. Each of my family now has a lot of fresh dug potatoes that will fill them up for several meals. I always have many boxes and cans of soup broth on hand. I even have 4 each of 2 qt jars dehydrated celery, diced onions and carrots in case my fresh supply gets cut off.

My biggest tip for stocking freezer produce and worrying about the power going out: get a kitchen scale, some jars and non-iodized salt and then you can lacto-ferment just about any veggie and quite a few fruits. I live in an area that gets power outages, and in the light of my flashlight, I was weighting out salt, veggies, and filtered water into jars for preservation. Obviously, when there is power, look up how to do it and print out any resources you'll want to have on hand when things are offline, just like canning.

Thank you Suttons Daze. Your vids motivate me to keep filling gaps. Here in East Texas this week, stock is VERY thin. Some quantity limit signs but there is little to no stock under the sign. The shelves are "faced" and there are many feet of empty shelves. No county or state lock downs, yet. Shop early am supposedly they restock before am opening. Shop the stores you don't usually go to. Hopefully you can find what you need. I am hearing 1st person about more and more funerals.May never need all this, but it's tangible insurance I can put my hands on. Please be well. Remember to lift your eyes up.

The little popcycles that come in a box in plastic tubes are a great prep especially if you have kids. Even if you don't freeze them. They're flavored water. Extra water storage, cheap, kids don't wast even when drinking them and they enjoy them. If someone is sick and you can freeze them it will help. Blessings to everyone
