I enjoy watching your reviews even tho I'm not a particular fan of neither Suunto nor Polar (I love my polar H10 tho). This just shows me why I'm glued to my Fenix 6X sapphire, it can do everything these 2 can do, usually better. Like for example navigation on the fenix is much better and compatibility with external sensors is limitless.

Pricing is the key probably. Here in my country the standard Fenix 6 (not pro, not premium) costs the same than the Polar Grit X Pro. That being said, for the same price you have the same level of navigation (as far as I know regular Fenix 6 doesn't have full mapping), sort of same features and the Grit X Pro comes with a sapphire screen compared to the gorilla glass on the regular Fenix 6. If we match the sapphire on the Fenix 6, it comes with more features, but costs hundreds of dollars more too.

In an age of smart watches with gps I cant believe there isn't more customisation out there in terms of external apps. Trying to find an outdoor watch that has everything i want is next to impossible but that polar comes close. For me the biggest things are the outdoorsey orientering stuff for hiking (altitude, weather, wind, compass etc) but i also like the recommended workouts on the polar too, that would be handy while travelling. All that said I live the the way that suunto looks and the better gps function is also great... if only suunto had customisation so i could install a weather widget

It irritates me that they put a big black border on the glass wasting all that real estate instead of making the usable screen as big as possible. I'm long-sighted, however, bigger digits means I can read the screen without glasses. That black border on the glass just makes it look really cheap.
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the thick border trend will end eventually. I have a feeling a lot of these manufacturers use the same LCD panel vendors so they end up with similar bezels. That's just speculation but there's got to be a reason!
@argentum39192 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummitYeah, that makes sense, so they just mask of part of the screen to up-sell the more expensive models. But they should only separate them by functionality and use the extra screen on the cheaper models for bigger digits. I've noticed that all these sports watch brands don't think about long-sighted runners who don't want to run with glasses cos we don't need them to see where we are going but we do need them for viewing the watch. It would be a winner i think.

9:20 "This watch (Suunto 9) does NOT have internal music storage" Ugh. Welp, it's back to more of your videos to find something else! And I was really leaning towards Suunto as a replacement for my FR945 that broke. 🙄 Just like the large bezels, how you say it's past time we got watches with THIN edges/bezels, I can't believe any brand is making a sports watch that is well over $500 and has no internal music storage. That's quite ridiculous. There are many times when I want to run and not bring my phone. Especially doing speedwork at the track. It's as if brands think the ability to play music via Bluetooth is a premium feature. Garmin still had some watches with "Music" in their name, indicating they're 'special' and can play music. 🙄

It seems these watches that focus on fitness (like Polar) just don’t know a thing about navigation. Showing your last GPS coordinate is great, but do they allow you to pick different coordinate systems such as UTM? Can you set magnetic declination? From what I can tell, we just have to pick which is more important to us: fitness or navigation. I haven’t seen anything to does both well.

tbh, i believe that, in fact, there is a proper temperature sensor onboard the Grit X, you just can't display the temperature on the watch display.... but it is shown on Flow. and i think there is a way to zoom +/- the breadcrumb gpx track... you have to push the middle-right button on navigation screen to do so

The Polar GritX Pro Titan is a value when compared to the premium Ti material Suunto,COROS and Garmin’sOne thing about Polar is their heart rate monitoring data has a better analysis with their Flow APP, especially with Trimp and Recovery data. With that said I own Polar and have the Vantage M1 and V2. I do think the GritX Pro Titan is more premium but I think of HRM watches as tech and not really as jewelry. Why spend more for Ti? I will be replacing my watch with new tech in a few years unlike my jewelry watches, that I seldom wear anymore.

Hey Dave, new watcher here. From my day of watching - I like your videos, they’re very hands-on and in-depth which is great for me. Hoping you can help me out here: I am looking for a new smart watch, I think I’ve outgrown the apple ecosystem as the charging every day is not what I’m looking for. I’m no runner by any means, but I do like hunting and hiking so I am active in the outdoors. I also do some road biking in the summer time. I am also fairly hard on my tech gear, as I work outside and in all weather conditions. So the sapphire screen and a good build quality is a must. I know you are always saying that garmin is the king in gpsmap area, but the lack of touchscreen in their 6 series is a big turnoff for me. I want a watch that watches my heart rate, tries to track sleep (I know they’re all not great), and can make it a full week at work, so no GPS needed. But, I do want some GPS functionality, if possible. That being said, would you choose the Grit X Pro over something else? I’m at a hard max of $500. The maps is a somewhat of big deal, but for everyday use, I am fine bringing my garmin 66 handheld to get me in and out of the woods. Hope you have some insight for me. Thank you!
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoy the videos! Personally I prefer the Fenix 6 over the GRit X Pro but that's only because I don't find the touch screen terribly useful. Buttons just work and are typically faster in sports situations along with having wet/dirty hands. The Fenix 6 Sapphire is quite durable. That said, if you're set on a touch enabled screen and want sapphire the Grit X Pro is an excellent watch and I have no complaints about using it. Sadly though the battery has a hard time lasting a full week with regularly recorded fitness activities.

I've had Garmins (and an Apple Watch) until I landed on Suunto after a lot of research. Ive had a couple of them and even though the product is good when it works, I will never EVER buy another one... Their customer support has proven to be one of the worst. So bad that it overshadows the quality of their product 1000-fold. For quick reference, I bought one for my wife as a gift. The bezel fell off within 2 months. Suunto replaced it with the same one and the bezel fell off again within a couple of weeks...!! I complained so much and asked for a slightly different model (same cost). They relented. Battery now dies within a few hours and even though we've had it less than 2 years, they are considering the warranty to be from the date of original purchase, which makes this one 3 weeks out of warranty. Needless to say, I will tell everyone about it. I'm now considering the Polar Grit X Pro as my next watch.

Thanks for an interesting comparison, and for the two individual reviews! Being Finnish, Im certainly very biased towards both brands, and I´m truly happy that they manage to stay among the top brands. Being a Polar user since 2016 (V800, now Vantage V), I´m likely to stay with Polar. I must, however say that the Suunto Peak has a very classy design. Also the Navigation seems just a tad better - but not enough. Really hoping for bigger screen/smaller bezels, as well as TBT navigation, even without a map...although that would be a dream. Best would be an elongated squareish design, somewhat bigger than V800 - that would really set it apart from all the others. I´m actually considering getting the VV2 Switch, since it in essence offers the same ss the GXPro in a sleeker design...but maybe waiting to see if they present it in a Titanium/Sapphire version.

do these watches bounce in a noticeable way while running? I have a Vantage M2 and most of the time I don't really even notice it even while riding my MTB, but that watch is like 45g with strap included. I like the Grit X Pro and might consider it as an update in a year or two, but the weight worries me a bit as I run and do MTB quite often and that bouncing makes some heavy watches noticeable all the time and also may cause inaccuracies on the readings.

Kind of depends on your wrist and how tight you strap them down. For me, I get minimal bounce with both Grit X Pro and Suunto 9 Peak. With activities like MTB it's a lot harder because you've got so much vibration to deal with. In that case I might suggest grabbing a chest or arm HR sensor so your data isn't wonky.
