I used to carry one of these during my deployments during my last deployment, I was involved in a explosion, lost my watch along with my leg and my left shoulder and it wasn’t until I saw the movie equalizer that it started to jog my memory then I saw this extra extraordinary set up video for one of the worlds most reliable durable versatile watches created, and God bless your heart. It took me nine years to find it and this was like riding a bicycle once you started going in to the functions I was reliving our briefing on it from our superiors all over again thank you so much SIR IT made me a subscriber

Grahame Cox Agreed! I got a Suunto Core in used/new condition on Ebay a few weeks, ago for $119. I LOVE it. I've been wanting one, since I saw Denzel Washington wearing it on the movie The Equalizer. I learned how to do most of the features on my on. I didn't know how to put it on sleep mode or how to set up the compass. Still, it's a great review for owners that aren't tech savvy.

Bless you. Without raining on your parade, I have been less than 100% happy with the Suunto Core. The temp function has never been accurate (this morning it said 29c, which is hot but I had to wear a cardigan!); the bezel scratches kinda easy, and the time runs a little fast. That said, it is rugged - I wear it around the farm most days and it gets a working man's treatment fixing farm stuff. A battery replacement proved a cinch when it died on me in central Cambodia. It functions well in swimming pools and the ocean. It looks cool when you wear it with a shirt and tie, or drinking beers in a bar. If this watch could talk, it would have much to say. My Casio Pathfinder, to be honest, is a better instrument, but the Suunto is light on the wrist, and faithful. Enjoy.

This is one of the best explanations of the Suunto Core watch I have seen yet. Follow his directions and your watch will be set as accurate as it can be with the info. The websites he provides in the video are all accurate and reliable for the setup of your watch. If you want your core watch to give accurate information this is a must watch video.

Good review. I have this watch and it's spot on. Pluses: *super comfy band and form fitting *compass feature for a back up (good for sea kayaking) *light weight but durable. Minuses: *dark numbers... so dark tough to see in certain lighting *shorter battery life... just over a year. *hard to see seconds displays. Great running, camping, boating watch. I wish Suunto would make the numbers a little lighter and somehow extend battery life.

Agreed. It’s ironic that with such a dim screen, almost impossible to read, the battery doesn’t last forever…
@kma862 жыл бұрын
I received the watch two days ago and I am in the honeymoon phase with it. One thing to note to any potential owners/buyers or maybe existing ones, you do need to set the time again after the watch has been into sleep mode. I've tried the sleep mode twice for the past two days (1) to adjust the display contrast and (2) to check what other options were there available when you immediately push the top left button after you turned it on (this is done right after you see the Suunto name appear on screen). After doing those things, the time was far out and I had to reset the time again. Just something for people to know about, as it would be a huge problem if you don't have another reference for the current time if your Suunto Core has gone into sleep mode.

great video's, my favorite watch, I love it, as far as the display, I've never had an issues seeing the numbers and I'm 57... it really lights up under night vision, I've had this watch since my military days and 5 batteries later its still kicking, still water proof and I trust this watches compass just as much as I trust my Rothco 416 compass, I don't always hear the alarm when I'm sleeping but God does my wife...but then I have hearing damage from service so I'm guessing the Alarm blends in with constant squealing I hear LOL

Excellent assist for the technologically challenged (moi). I completely agree with the opinion that for older people this 'negative readout' display format may be slightly challenging. It would be far better were the display considerably more pronounced (brighter). However, that is a limitation one accepts and learns to live with (or one gets the 'positive readout' display version). Having used the 'Highgear Summit' multifunction wrist computer for several years, I find that the Suunto counterpart is quite different and takes a bit if getting used to. That said, both watches have their positive & negative aspects (the Highgear Summit has recently been discontinued, by the way, leaving Suunto almost alone in the game). Thanks again for an excellent introduction to this and the CORE series watches. I would disgree slightly in that the Suunto is not as intuitively set-up as you feel it is. A good 'how-to' instruction such as you have provided is really essential, so your instructive video is appreciated!

Excellent Review Sir,, I,am British Army, Infantry Rifles- Reconnaissance plt (RECCE) 12 years, as a military watch it is easy 8 out of ten 10, the light on the face not being very bright, is good as a Solider in the field NOT giving your place when Cam'ed Up and the Alt is good for calling I com's and using the compass as a Quick bug-out or march reference ,until you get your Main compass on the go to get an Real main Bearing and or Grid Reference,, to get to your R.V , etc,,the watch holds up to Military field use very good in real life and is a good price ,but I would personally recommend a screen protector if your using on the Hills , But Once again BUY FAR the best Review I've seen , especially for Civie's ,,, Great Video 👍 ,, look forward to more , all the best SCOUSE OUT

Is there a more convenient way to set your current altitude (e.g. as shown on a road sign), without going into that clumsy menu? On my old Suunto Vector, that task is much easier, which much less button presses. When hiking in the Alps, I set my reference altitude 10 times a day sometimes...

I don't know if you mentioned this yet.. I'm only at 1:52 right now.. but I keep hearing people say that this watch is too dim... I'm 57, wear glasses, and I have no problem viewing the time. It IS harder to see than with "normal" watches, but the whole point is to angle it. The display is the way it is for stealth purposes for the military and the light feature is very dim because, in absolute darkness, even dim light can be seen quite a distance, and through night vision scopes, it becomes a glaring beacon. It also extends battery life, though they really need to work on that.
@2000ViperGTSsubscribe6 жыл бұрын
"The display is the way it is for stealth purposes" You are kidding me here with this comment. I'm a vet, and I am guessing you never served in SPECOPS or the like-everyone wears Ironmans and such and even all 11B's and such use displays you can see.

I used to have the Suunto Vector many, many years ago... now I needed to get a new mountaineering watch. I had recently purchased a different brand, with the face black as well... It was way too hard to see. I am also not a soldier in need for a tactical watch... I need one that I can read (I am 50 now and need reading glasses) easily, when backpacking in the mountains, in winter... GearLab had an excellent review of the Suunto Core... but it seems all reviews focus on the (tactical), military style watch, as if this watch is used by the army and not mountain climbers... Anyway... I ordered the "Ultimate Black", which is similar to the tested one, but has a white (grey) face, more traditional, easier to read and the only difference that appears to me is that the two fluorescent markers on the bezel do not exist, which would be practical... but, anyway... I am getting the new watch in a few hours and this video review is really helpful! Thanks!

I've found the barometer to be extremely accurate; to the exact millimetre of weather stations in my region. The storm alarm works well with the pressure dropping rate triggering it. About a week after replacing the strap, one of the screws fell out of the strap bar, so when the replacement bar arrives, I'll be giving the tiny screws a touch of Loctite to hopefully, stop them unscrewing themselves again. The lug screws next to the watch never undone have been fine. Sept 2023 update-watch is still operating as when new. The leather strap fitted has been fine as also the lug screws. Important to keep the sensor holes clear in the U moulding underside. The Storm Warning has never let me down for significantly worsening weather.
