The alarm works well. It always wakes me up and sounds pleasant too (a loop of three beeps descending in pitch). It even has an optional 5-minute snooze function. It's a really good, well thought out alarm.

@nikudes thanks for replying, hope you enjoy core, from what i see cpre is the top of abc watches, the only problems i found is some quality issues or software problems, do you find any problems with it? is there any fear for swimming or snorkelling? something i should know before buying? thanks in advance

Hello friend! I really like the watch. But I would like to know the following. There is a need to remove it from the wrist to measure the temperature of the environment? Thanks! Thanks!

Roger; I was able to try on a Suunto at REI and it fit great, I dig the curved shell and bezel, it wears and feels smaller than it is. Haven't been able to find a 5.11 in any retail stores. I had an idea some time ago that these compass watches should have a provision on the case for a snap-on Lensatic adapter (with the slit sight and sighting wire), so you can sight a bearing accurately.
@silvermediastudio12 жыл бұрын
How do you compare the Suunto Core with the 5.11 Tactical? Any difference that you know of regarding the accuracy or ease-of-use of the compass? I do some recreational high power rifle shooting, so I could (in theory) use the ballistic calculator of the 5.11, but I also have range cards made up for all my loads, so it really isn't essential. Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

Hey man thanks a lot for all the videos on the core. I was just wondering if it has a rugged feel to it. I want a watch that i won't have to worry about no matter where I go and that won't scratch or break too easily... Thanks again
@nikudes15 жыл бұрын
It really comes down to how you're going to use it and personal preference. I'm not that familiar with the 1500 but from what I've found online... Do you need a tide graph, enhanced water resistance and moon phase? Then go with the Casio. Do you want a slicker look, a menu-driven display the ability to log and playback your altimeter readings? Then go with the Suunto.

Nice videos, thanks heaps. I just got my core today. do you know if you can set the temerature. Mine is telling me that is is 30deg/cel but i know it is 15deg/cel in my area...

@hurmzz This wasn't an out-of-the-box color combo. I bought the orange strap, orange screen Suunto Core and replaced the original strap with a brown, light elastomer version. It looks like neither the orange screen Core or the brown strap are currently available though. The closest combo might be the Suunto Core All Black with the black light elastomer strap.
@TomSallt16 жыл бұрын
Besides the straps, isn't it that the Black Orange has orange digits in the display and the background is slightly orange, almost black, while the All Black Core has grey digits and black background?
14 жыл бұрын
One thing that I'm wondering about is that your Core seems to have orange screen, while the one I've just ordered seems to be grey. Know something about this?
@nikudes15 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I never thought of that--makes sense. It wouldn't screw up your night vision. Glad you like the video (and the watch)!

The altimeter is normally pretty responsive. I don't have any experience with it fast descent uses like downhill skiing or sky diving. The recording interval on the altimeter recorder can be set to an update interval of one second (that's the fastest update setting). So it seems reasonable to assume that it will be able to update the display that fast. I'd contact Suunto directly though, if you have specific performance criteria in mind. Best, Nik

@nikudes15 жыл бұрын
Did you try to access that info with the same button sequence as in the video? If your manual says that's it's supposed to show you that info and it's not, I'd try to contact Suunto. I'm not sure if it's possible to update the software or not.

Hi there, nice review. I heard of lots of problem of the Core as far as the overall quality and battery issue go. It's a great design and good looking, but I'm a bit hesitatnt to make my purchase due to so many deregotory comments around. Personally, do you have any problems with your watch? How long have you been using it? Thanks in advance for your reply.
@GiorgosThessaloniki13 жыл бұрын
hey my friend, once again thats a really nice review..you seem to know these things, a last (two) question if you dont mind.. how the battery duration, the first lasted 8 months the others???? The timer is stable to maximum 1 hour???you find this enough???
@chtjagadesh807811 жыл бұрын
it is great but whats the use of knowing all the other things other than time.
@GiorgosThessaloniki13 жыл бұрын
good review pal, i was wondering whats your opinion about its durability after long time you are using it Really thankful if you reply
@nikudes13 жыл бұрын
@bezgeo85 Hi, sorry for the delay in responding. Batteries seem to last six to eight months. But I don't find this a big deal. They're very easy to change. The countdown timer actually has a 99 minute maximum. The only thing I usually time are parking meters, so that's enough for me. For a two hour meter, I just set for an hour and reset for another hour.
@WestCountyExplorers13 жыл бұрын
@devtank1 It does have a low battery indicator but the one I my watch seems glitchy. (It turns on about a week before the battery dies but then turns off again.) I just keep extra batteries on hand. They about 2 minutes to replace, which you can do in the field. (The back unscrews with a coin.)

@mecover I appreciate your service and your feedback. It sounds like I can stick by my "Suunto Core is like an Audi. Casio Pathfinder is like a Toyota" analogy.
@nikudes12 жыл бұрын
Apologies for the late reply. The adjustment can be made in Settings > Units > Time. So hold the middle-right button down for 3 seconds, scroll down to Units (the upper and lower right buttons are used for scrolling), and select Time. Use the scroll buttons to select either 12h or 24h and push the middle-right button to confirm.
@nikudes12 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the 5.11 Tactical so I can't compare. See if you can find them in a store to try them out for yourself or, if return policies permit, buy both and return one. I find the compass easy to use. It does go into standby mode after a minute of continuous use (to conserve battery power). It can then be restarted by a button push. The declination can also be set, so it will read true north. I think the limiting factor for accuracy will be how well you can sight it on a target.
@nikudes13 жыл бұрын
@UnivoxMax Technically, yes, but the watch's 30m rating represents its absolute, one-time test limit in a static environment. There's a good article on Wikipedia about water resistance, if you'd like to read more. I generally go with 1/3 of the rated depth for real-world use, although the Wikipedia article says watches rated to 30m are not suitable for swimming. The Suunto manual, however, says the maximum service depth for the Core is 10m which translates to 32.8 ft.
@vat06915 жыл бұрын
Is that the light brown elastomer band?
@nikudes15 жыл бұрын
No worries, glad they're useful. I'm not sure about the scratch resistance. If ruggedness is a priority, check out the Casio Pathfinders. They have a similar feature set, seem really rugged, and cost less than half the price of the Core so you may wince less when you scratch it. Or buy the Core and wear a sweat band over it. ;)

@bezgeo85 Hi, the watch still works as new. It hasn't been getting super hardcore use, just daily wear and occasional camping, mountain biking, snorkeling. But I've been very happy with it. It's an easy watch to live with. The display can be dim in low light but I don't notice that issue often. Thanks for the comment.
@nikudes15 жыл бұрын
You're welcome--glad you liked. The temperature sensor on the watch will be affected by your body heat. There's no way that I know of to compensate for that. If you want it to show true temperature you have to take it off and let it sit for about 20 minutes. I mainly use the temp. function at night when I'm not wearing the watch, like how cold is it in the tent, etc.
@UnivoxMax13 жыл бұрын
@nikudes Isn't it 30m?

I don't know why I cannot find a way to change 24hr to 12 hr time set of my SUUNTO CORE ALL BLACK can you help me man?
@nikudes13 жыл бұрын
@bezgeo85 No, I haven't had any problems. If any come up it's possible to reset the watch by pushing and holding down all four "corner" buttons. Swimming or snorkeling has been fine. Just remember then watch can only handle depths of about 30 feet, but that should be plenty for snorkeling. If you wear it in salt water, just rinse it well after use. Best, Nik

It has a depth meter but it's only good for 30 feet, so only for snorkeling. You might want to check out my videos on the Citizen Aqualand 20th Anniversary model. It's an analog/digital dive watch with a lot of functionality. And it's rated to 600 feet.

I have an orange-faced Core as well. I never found it difficult to see as some ppl did. Good all-around ABC watch and quite unique with the orange/amber display. The battery for me lasts pretty much a year every time since I don't use the compass on it much and have the alti/baro _not_ set to auto. I have seen the low battery indicator come on. Not really sure how long until it dies from then, but it lasted two days until I could get a battery for it.
@nikudes14 жыл бұрын
@twargin Yeah, sorry about that. Super sensitive mic. I've switched mics since then.
@nikudes13 жыл бұрын
@GuiuFlash Yes, the heat of your body will effect the temperature reading but that's true for any watch that measures temp. Take it off and after 20 min. the temp. reading will be correct. Best, Nik

that no-warning battery death, (and longevity of battery life) is a deal killer for me. Ill take an invincible casio anyday. Whats with this fascination for negative displays anyway..
@mecover13 жыл бұрын
@nikudes These watches barely hold up to daily use. The bezels wear from contact with clothes, the bands are crap and the crystals seem to scratch with air contact. Other than that they are great watches. Get a Pathfinder. My PAG40 has survived 2 tours of Iraq and years of harsh training evolutions in the Military. I have owned both. The Suunto is best if you only use it for bicycling.
