Tristan, I've mentioned so many times how much I love your videos and personality. This video though, was so touching. We've heard you mention family, but there was more depth this time and it's so cool to see how you got your love of mountains. And the fact you took the book up there was very special to me, it gives us an even deeper view of who you are as a person. Really appreciate you being vulnerable and sharing Your Dad may not physically be watching your videos anymore, but I guarantee you his spirit is now out there with you enjoying the view from the other side. RIP to your Father! 💙

I have hiked around mountain goats a lot here in Washington state and in most cases you're fine with them. Just don't get too close up in the enchantments above Leavenworth here. I've hiked around 30 or 40 of them and there's usually like a mail that's watching over them, but I just stay away from him. The rest of them just stay away from you so it's a good thing to be weary of. But most cases you're going to be just fine.

Like your dad, it is my Saturday tradition to watch your videos, however, I refuse to watch until I have quiet, uninterrupted time to enjoy them. I am watching this 3 weeks late because I have been taking care of my mom who has been diagnosed with NeuroEndocrine cancer. I was very touched by this and sorry for your loss. Your dad has left a fabulous legacy. Watching a beautiful mountain view must have made the transition easier for him. Rest In Peace, Mr Higbee Sr. We all will remember you!

A fantastic video with amazing scenery - a wonderful tribute to your dad. I climbed the main summit of Mt. Timpanogos in September of 1980 as a college student. I was eating breakfast in the dorm cafeteria and was talking to some people I didn't know, and they said they were planning on climbing the mountain and asked if I wanted to join them. I said yes, and it was one of the most amazing hikes I've done. Thanks for sharing this today - it brought back a lot of good memories!

This video hit really close to home. Thank you for sharing. I lost my dad to COVID last year. He was 67. Ironically, he and my mom were RVing through Utah and came down with COVID in Provo. I flew out there (first time I had been to Utah) and took them to the hospital and helped take care of them. My dad's view out of his hospital room was Mt. Timpanagos. He spent the last two weeks of his life viewing that mountain. So, your video sharing about the loss of your dad and the significance of that mountain really hit me hard. I feel for you and the pain that you are experiencing with the loss. I will say a prayer for you and your family. I just became a subscriber to your channel a couple of weeks ago and I think God had a hand in leading me to your channel at this time. It meant a lot. Really appreciated this video!

Tristan, I really loved this video, more so than all of the others that you have done. Not because it was the most beautiful mountain that you have been to or the highest or The most difficult. No, I love this more than all the others because of your personal connection with your father and your grandfather and this mountain range. I thank you for talking about your father and grandfather and the very personal connection you had with this mountain! I am sorry to hear about your dad's passing and how quick it all happened. I know that somewhere he is smiling at you for revisiting this mountain and he would have loved to watch this video that you have created in essence in memory of him and your granddad. Thank you for sharing. I love watching your videos and cannot wait to see what the future is in store for you and your channel.

Excellent adventure thru some gorgeous country! I've been on the surrounding highways,,but never have I been in the hills in that area. The connection to your Grandpa and Dad are extremely important. I still have my Dad,,at 87 and he still loves adventures,,the just always involve car tires nowadays. My Grandpa always smelled of Juniper wood smoke,,so I'm tied to him by campfires. I 1st climbed the South Sister out of Bend when I was 12. My Dad and Grandpa were with me. My Grandpa was 61 and that was the last time he climbed the South Sister out of over 20 times,,but he never stopped checking out cool, beautiful places for 20 more years. I think of him every time I camp. My Dad is still pretty healthy and active,,so he usually is with me camping. I'm sure your memories will be a great comfort to you in the future. Thank for sharing this video. It was very touching.

Thank you for this great video. I just recently found your channel. I even showed this video to my husband who really enjoyed it, too. I hiked to the main peak with my dad in 1954 when I was 8 years old. That was back when there was a "Timp" day when everyone who reached that "shack" on top received a button pin with the date on it. I still had mine until a few years ago. It was orange and blue. I remember having to slide down a glacier on the way down. I never hiked it again, but my husband and all of my 7 children hiked it at least once and now grandchildren make it a tradition.

You got me choked up there several times speaking about your dad. 17 years since my own dad passed, and 10 since mom. Enjoy your mom's remaining years It looks like a lot of important things got passed down in your family, like finding a real love story with a great woman who sees something special in you. How interesting that Cassie just recently told you that your early dating hike convinced her you'd be married, when you knew your dad proposed to your mom on a hike. History is repeating itself in a good way. I hope you make it to at least 50 years together also. Get Well Soon, both of you!

My dad instilled the same love of the mountains in me growing up. We live in the Central Valley of California so I grew up in the Sierra Nevada hiking, fishing and camping all over. I’m 37 now and it’s still my favorite place to be. My dad is still alive but he’s not in great health so we can’t do the same things we used to do together but we still get a fishing trip of 2 in each year. I’m instilling that same love for the mountains with my 3 daughters now as we spend a lot of time camping and visiting Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite and other places. I have even got my wife into backpacking and we have done some awesome trips together over the years. It’s one of the best gifts you can give someone, bc it’s the gift that keeps on giving. It never gets old being up there, in fact I think it just gets better as time goes on. Thanks for another great video! They’re something I look forward to each Saturday morning. Take care Tristan!

Thanks, Tristan. Awesome vid, some wonderful storytelling. I'm so sorry about your dad passing, but I get the sense that with his book in hand, and the fact that he was reading it until he passed, he was up there with you sharing this adventure with you. Based on some of the posts below, many of us have very fond memories of times we spent with our family members who are no longer with us, and we kind of get to relive them through engaging in the activities that we once shared with them. My late dad used to love driving a Jeep offroad, so my offroad motorcycling and mountain biking is somewhat inspired by him, and offroading in my new Subaru Forester will certainly feel familiar and inspired by him AND informed by your book. And, everytime I go fresh water fishing it's as if my dad is with us because it was an activity that my entire family enjoyed with him while camping.

17:58: Those circular fossils are Crinoids, marine animals that were attached to the sea bottom by a stalk. The circles are sections of the stalk. Something like round vertebrae. Possibly the most common fossils in North America. Once you learn to recognize them, you will notice them more frequently, especially in limestone, which was formed from compressed ancient sea bottom. Incidentally, native American stone tools in the midwest were made from limetsone, and it's not unheard of to find a spearpoint with small fossils in it.

Wow Tristan, your last couple videos have touched me, and brought about very special memories of my own. Like you, I have strong emotional ties to mount Timpanogos. My daughter, who passed away back in 2014 loved the times we climbed Timpanogos peak together. Peak bagging was something we had done together when she was going through some tough times. Now I climb Timpanogos on occasion to feel close to her, but haven't been able to do so the last few years due to health issues. It's looking good for me to make it again this coming summer though. Your video has once again kicked the motivation to do so into high gear.

You were right in my backyard. I spend a lot of time hiking in that canyon and it is beautiful year round. My own father has been gone for ten years and he instilled that great love of the outdoors in me. He lived his later years in the same town where I live, tucked up in the corner by the mouth of the canyon. My children once asked him, if he could live anywhere in the world, where would he live? His answer was that he was already living in the spot he would pick, where he could see these mountains all around him. Thanks for sharing the tribute to your father. I often think of my own father as I am out exploring.

Awesome video and tribute to your father. Likewise, I did a tribute to my dad this summer and took a big motorcycle trip from here in UT up through WY, MT and ID to ride the best mountain roads America has to offer. He always wanted his ashes spread in Casper, WY, so I honored that wish for him. It was nice to give him one last motorcycle ride to his favorite place in the country. I'll always reflect on that trip and it's importance to me, and even hopefully him in the afterlife. I know he was there to keep me safe on two wheels the entire trip and it was great to have him riding shotgun with me. I'm sure you felt the same way on this adventure. What an awesome tribute and thanks for sharing your story. 🙂

Tristan, Thank you so much for sharing your story in this video. I've been watching your videos for quite some time and really appreciate what you do. I'm 58, and once travelled around, like you do, over a great deal of the American West. I started a print shop in Telluride awhile back and don't get out as much. The places you go, your very informative videos and your wonderful light attitude have been giving me lots of ideas of places I've never been before, to start taking trips again. And, my condolences about your Dad. My Dad and I used to backpack a lot when I was young. Did the Tahoe-Yosemite with him when I was about 14. He went on to do the PCT and AT and bike solo across the northern US coast to coast in his older years. He's fading from dementia now (87). So thanks for sharing your story. Best one, for me, I've watched yet. It reminded me how important. And to appreciate. It left me with tears. Thanks for doing what you do. -Lawrence, Happy Print

That “rainbow” is called a sundog. It’s not rain, it’s ice crystals in the atmosphere. Great videos, by the way! We always follow you. Thx.

The photos of your mom and dad and their 50 years married made me think of the sweet video of the time you introduced Cassie to us and the way she looked at you that you can see the same love your mom and dad shared as you have with Cassie. This video and the one introducing Cassie are the most touching videos you've done, I think.

What an awesome inspiring mountain. And I love the family stories. Thank you for sharing. I don't like climbing that loose rock but for some reason I like the sound it makes. I hope you and Cassie are recovering from the flu/cold and feeling better.

This hike and video are a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to your father. I started watching your videos in 2021, as I was grieving my husband, and your adventures remind me so much of how he liked to experience the world, especially the west. I'm so sorry you lost your dad so quickly, and far too soon. We are never ready to say goodbye to the people we love. Thank you for sharing your experience in such a personal way, it helps to process it, and it honestly helps other people carry their grief. Best wishes to you, your mom and your family.

Hey my friend. First of all, i love your videos. I have dreams of seeing some of these places you take us too. Except i want to ride my dual sport motorcycle. Im home sick tonight with a bad cold and put this video on. I got all of the way to the point where you mentioned your dad had a glioblastoma. My deepest condolences. I lost my dad in march of 2021 also to an inoperable glioblastoma. Crazy coincidence. Sending you positive healing vibes tonight, and what a great way to honor your dad. I also have a utube channel and ive been trying to do an honor my dad video for about a year. Thanks for the inspiration, and please keep taking us to these amazing places.

Hi Tristan, Your videos are always so informative. The pure white Mtn Goats are majestic! I especially loved this one and the wonderful stories of your family, the love of your father and grandfather. How amazing to hike the very same trail where your dad proposed to your mom. Very touching!

Your best and most touching video. Thank you for taking me along. As a cancer survivor i can no longer go on these kind of adventures. My dad loved nature as well and passed his love on to me. He is gone now but your video brought back so many great memories of him and our adventures together. Thank you so much!

You’ve such treasured memories of your Dad and Grandparents Tristan. That climb on that beautiful mountain acknowledging your Dad and Grandfather and acknowledging those who died in the bomber (which was part of yours and your Dad’s story) would have been cathartic in some way. I became quite tearful. Thank you for sharing such a time with your family. Much to be thankful for even though we miss our loved one’s presence hugely it’s great to reflect on some those special memories that keeps our love for them in our hearts. I miss my Dad hugely - you’ve made me realise how I could honour him in his life too…and that’s to keep on exploring/adventuring. He was the one who introduced my love for SCI, LOTR, Solar power and living off grid sustainably, off road driving, car racing, cricket , sailing, nature conservancy and going beyond our comfort zones. Hope you and Cassie are resting up and recovering.

Like your father, I have been watching your videos every Saturday morning, cup of coffee in hand, for years. This video is deeply significant for those of us that feel like we are part of your life and family through the wonder of your documentaries of your journeys. If it were possible, I would like to meet your grandfather and father, and thank them for passing down the wonder of the mountains to you, which you have graciously passed down to us. My life is richer because of you, your father, your grandfather, Cassie, and even Bowser. Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing this video. Please stay safe out there, and know that your story is touching lives all over the world. Thank you!
