In Touhou fighting games *all* routes are canon, though "canon route" is not really a correct term to apply here in the first place, because those are actually more like different chapters of the one continuous story. Every single story mode should be played in order in which they are unlocked in the game, if you want to get the full plot - to the point where some story modes are the direct continuation of the others, and you won't understand ones without playing the others first.

@@IdiotNo Tenshi's scenario is the best of the game, she goes down and picks fights with everyone because shes bored. Then she tells everyone who beat her "well i wasnt using my full power and i let you all win." Fucking brutal. And yes, Iku and tenshi are two of my favorite characters in touhou period.

fun fact about UNL or hisoutensoku: Nitori, Wriggle, Fujiwara and Kaguya were supposed to be playable characters in this game however due to time constraints they were scrapped characters. I supposed it makes sense that both Nitori and Wriggle would investigate(because Nitori is a gadget kappa), Wriggle on the other hand would investigate due to the bugs being disturbed by the giant youkai(which is the robot), however Kaguya and Fujiwara are mysterious case of to why they would exist here, however 1 thing is certain, and that is theu will fight each other in their own scenario

Extra Funfact: There is a fanmod for UNL that adds a shitload of characters (11 iirc though most are semi clones i believe) 2 of these are Mokou and Kaguya. So in the end I guess they did get added, but they don't have stories (but hey neither did Meiling in IaMP)

I love Urban Legend in Limbo, i love the idea how characters are fit with a certain real life Urban legend, and I had a blast searching the wiki on what each character’s urban legend is, and i love how characters like Futo and Hata No kokoro stay in character to their urban legend like how hata keeps asking people if she’s pretty or Futo asking for where her 10th plate is, its little things like these that made me enjoy the game a lot more

i love this fact and this is like the only time ill get to mention ot but afaik every touhou fighting game gives at least a subtle hint to the final boss in its title, my two personal favorites are imp (the abbreviation is the name for a type of small childish demon), and hopeless masquerade, which uhh say it out loud

The fightting game or spin off games are indeed canon. As for canon routes, in IAMP or 7.5 everything is canon but only until the need to open the true ending happen where reimu fights suika in the end, for SWR or 10.5 the canon ending is everything but the true ending is when yukari fights tenshi and then reimu, for 12.8? Or hisoutensoku everything is canon with no true ending, 13.5 or HM canon is everything but the true ending iirc is the kokoro ending, 14.5 or ulil true canon is either kasen, mokou, marisa, reimu or yukari because it has mentions in touhou ibarakasen, 15.5 canon is everything but there is a true ending with yukari and reimu pair after you finished everything. I will not spoil anything about the ending itself, just informing which one can be considered canon. The fighting games are the ones that has every route to be canon. If you are wondering the standard for canonity in touhou is not a question of which one, but a question of who wrote it and is he approve. Because everything that zun's wrote is canon unless he said otherwise and vice versa.

ULiL is the best because it has my favorite spell card in the entire series due to how stupid of a concept it is... Gun Sign "3D Printer Gun" Well, that and I also just like the writing and story. I know it's effective because most of my favorite Touhou characters have been in at least one of these fighting games, and this doesn't apply to just ULiL either.

Man, I was really hoping this video would be a deep dive into these game's lore rather than a superficial retelling of a single character's route... Don't get me wrong, I totally get it how hard it is to gather the lore, especially not being japanese so many things go over our heads because they're so fundamentally rooted in japanese folklore and "mythological logic" if that makes sense. There's so many interesting things being left out as a result, like Suika's motivations and the result of her intervention, Yukari's role in that game and scarlet weather , the rising tension between the different religious factions that suddenly appeared in Gensokyo and resulted in Hopeless Masquerate... That being said, great work man. Keep it up.

Reimu's pool party was ruined by some beetch spilling Oil (which is actually blood but it isn't because that wouldn't be pg clean so it's actually a physical manifestation of human suffering in liquid form) into the pool which later turned into the ocean of this "oil like substance". Short version: Ruined pool party turns into a flood of oil.
