I had a fizzy. Standard form in good condition on flat, no wind, 47 mph. My friend had an AP, standard form good condition, flat, no wind 50 mph. I always envied the extra gear, premix system & the 0.2 HP extra the AP had. Also the tank looked more beefy on the AP. I had to put a 60 kit with upgraded carb jets on my fizzy & a bigger sprocket to keep up with the stock AP.

The AP50 was quicker than the Yamaha FS01E. It had a self mixing 2 stoke. I wish I had one over my Yamaha.

Ap50 was defo a few mph faster than the fizzies, with the ss50 brings up the rear. Also had a larger tank, like a propa motorbike lol. The fastest of the peds was the Garelli.

My AP had a groove down the barrel where the gudgeon pin didnt have a clip and wore a big groove. It did 65 and was the undesputed speed champion and beat all the fizzys. Great times :)

The speeds were measured by my Dad following us in his Audi, not the bike speedos which were both about 5mph to high!

My AP 50 would do 60 on the clock , and would keep up with 2 of my friends 60 cc conversions Fizzers, no problem , it had an exhaust on from Spain that looked like a micron ,and I've owned a SS50 x2 FS1E,S and the AP , I think the Yams looked better , but not many things were quicker on top end if any ,2 of the lads had a fabulous GARELLI Tigercross and a CIMMATI dont no the model of that ,turning 16 and the freedom of going anywhere and not on a bus , Happy Days .

My first bike!! (mine was red) mine came in MPH in 1977. I loved it but I was always a bit tall for it and always came off it in wet weather because of the tiny back tyre. I quickly moved up to the Suzuki TS250. The FS1E was always a tiny bit faster imo, but the AP was a bit fatter and more motorcycle like

Great vid! I got the Swedish version of it (acually I got 6 or 7) the model was called K50 and had sligtly diffrence (sadle, air cleaner, and No dorky pedals) same looks and was treamendous popular during the 70-80s, I don’t know the Brittish regulations but in Sweden all mopeds was regulated to max speed of 30Km/h (18,6mph) onto 1988

Thete was a 100cc version of these, the A100. Four speed if I remember right. That struggled to get to 60 so I'm dubious if the fifty got any near that speed. Rose tints. Like you always think your first snog was with a page 3 girl.

In my opinion the AP50 looks better than the FS1e and as he says looks a bigger bike. Also to me 5 speeds are essential on a 50 sports, in fact the more the better! Most important is the 'Posi-Force' lubrication system which means no worry about premix AND a better lubrication of the engine. Even sounds better than the FS1e too (less poppy) I currently own 2x SS50 4 speeds and ride a 1970 SS50 5 speed. It is perhaps the most powerful SS50 with 6hp at 11,000 rpm and an indicated top speed of 56 on the speedo gear range, though I calculated that gearing and tyre diameter would only give 50 at 11,000 and the 4 speeds 45 at 10,200 (max for that engine tune). I once got indicated (est. as off clock) 63 on a downgrade but I suspect speedo was way optimistic! Certainly it was crap up hills compared with a 2 stroke but was indestructable, reliable and did 150mpg. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXfRp5SIqNCUqas
