Suzuki Boulevard C90 Starting Issue - Possible Fix - Starter Relay

I have been having trouble with my 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C90 not starting every time. Some clicking noises. This video is me talking about the troubleshooting I have been doing and what I think may have been a fix.

2011 c50t similar issues. Replaced starter fuse because it would blow from time to time, no change. Changed starter, no change. Changed started relay, no change. Finally pulled the battery cover on left side found a bundle of wires comming from the computer that was touching the frame. Inspected the wires and found 1 wire rubbed through and was grounding out on the frame. Put electric tape around damaged wire, bundle and frame. So far so good. You might want to look into that.

Same problem. My fix. Battery was just off full charge and would not crank, just the decomp solinoid going off and occassionally starting. All intermittent. Rectifyer regulator readings and outputs were not to spec. Replaced it and no problems now. Yes, i have done all of the other stuff discussed here as well. But, its a big engine with a little battery which needs to be at optimal performance output. My 2 bobs worth.

This literally happened to me last night, it had done it about eight months ago and then has not done it since. I am so glad I found your video. I’m going to start with the relay because that seems most logical. I will give you an update if it fixes the issue.

I made a homemade diagnostic tool. Two medium alligator clamps and a piece of 4 gauge battery cable to jump between the positive post on the battery and the starter. It works every time so now I will never get stranded again. Also I have a relay on order. 😁 I wish I could post a picture of my jumper lead but just imagine a small jumper lead but really heavy.

I had a similar issue on an older suzuki GS1150 and it was corrosion inside the ground battery cable. To look at it, it seemed fine but once i open the casing it was all coroded so when the bike got hot it lost a good connection and wasn't running great. To test the theory when it doesn't start just put extra wire form battery (-) to ground on the bike frame and see if it'll fire up. No need to swap it out until its confirmed.

music comes on screeching loud, i have to keep hitting the M (mute) key; also wish you made the video during the day, but still usefull,thanks,just trying to see where things are on the bike; have a 1500 Intruder here from the neighbour, with a bad starter or relay,it just clicks, battery good,and has only 12. 4 volts charging,headlight on,bad reg-rec or alternator; wants me to repair it, instead of a shop, even though i charge more; he knows what he is doing lol

2005 C90 Boulevard…clutch engagement micro switch…check it before all that other crap..it’s in the wind/water and it will fail keeping you from even getting a click on the starting solenoid. It’s under the clutch lever…easy to get to. Check starting logic before throwing parts and money at a problem.

Two words, "Decompression cable" a Suzuki c90 2005 that refuse some time to start by just making a click, it is a decompression cable to loose, and the funniest part of this, it is easy to fix and easy to test, if your Suzuki c90 2005 refuse to start, put it in third gear and back your motorcyle of two yard, and try to start again if it is starting you know that is your decompression cable, by backing your bike in third gear, you decompress the engine manually, just search on youtube how to adjust the cable, and voila issue resolve.

IF it clicks AND the Bat. voltage stays the same,then it is not the cable,it is the Starter Relay or the Starter itself; IF it clicks AND the Bat.voltage SAGS on the multimeter, and no start, then it IS the decomp; right? thanks

I have a 1999 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC, and it has a starting issue. I thought it was the battery because when I went to start it, it cranked , it acted like the battery was going dead. I bought and installed a brand new battery, and went to start it, and the same thing happened, labored cranking, no start. I went to the Suzuki 1500LC / C90 Owners Group and asked what could be causing this and was told to jump the starter relay, and that if it cranked normally then the starter relay was bad. I jumped the starter relay and got a good solid crank. This group also said not to cheap out on the starter relay but to buy the OEM relay. I ordered a OEM relay and will see if this cures the starting problem.

I have a feeling my VL1500 has the same problem new battery but all I get is the clicking from decompression cable going up and down so I jumped the connections on the solenoid while having a cable tie around the clutch lever and she fired right up I have just ordered a new starter solenoid so fingers crossed lol great video especially if this works on mine

Really good video by the way - good and clear!.. I have a 2005 Suzuki C50 and when I went to start riding this year(about a week ago), it was no go. My troubleshooting led me to find out I keep blowing the fuel 10A fuse, the fuel pump comes on for about 1 sec and then the fuse blows - do you think its the fuel pump or what can you tell me thx , any recommendations?

The bike has been running great. Starts every time with no issues. I'm glad I started with the starter relay before spending all the money to replace items like the stator when that wasn't even the problem. Best of luck to you. I hope this fixes your problems.

One question... is this problem only occured at cold starts or it just when u rode and stopped? Mine has a problem that it starts every time for cold start but when I stop (fuel station or just having a smoke) sometimes it just wont start, and I have to wait or it randomly wiggle cables then just starts when I press the start button. No clicking noise tho only my headlight blinking like crazy when I hit the button.

This is my exact bike. Been looking around for videos of where to find that. Long story short week ago my clutch lost pressure in dead stop traffic. Once towed home 185 later, I blead the clutch multiple times over. Finally have pressure again. Went to start and nothing. Took battery to oriellys and dead cell. So I bought another one. Still nothing. Just lights coming on and small audible click but nothing. Never had any of these problems until I lost clutch pressure. Oh and now fi light comes on after about 20 seconds of trying to start. Then CHECK but says nothing else. I'm completely illiterate with these bikes except for what I've fixed and picked up along the way. Any help would be much appreciated. My next is change what you did but I'm wondering why I have a fuel injection light coming on

Wow. That’s a little beyond what I experienced with the bike. Unfortunately I no longer have the bike. I totaled it in a motorcycle wreck last summer or I would try to help you walk through the issues. Good luck to you though.

how many miles were on your bike when this occurred? My bike had it's first issue. just cracked 6k on my 2005 C90. my bike wont even crank, but it is intermittent. fiddled with it a few times and she did finally crank. when she cranks, she turns over just fine. so this seems similar to my issue. any thoughts?

I don’t think it has much to do with how many miles you have on it. It’s just the age of the bike. Order the starter relay and give it a shot. It’s a very inexpensive place to start. Good luck.

I wish we could have heard the noise it was making before removing anything. Mine the only noise it's making now is only the Decompression solenoid it's clicking. The starter doesn't make any noise at all

Clutch engagement micro switch under the clutch lever will kill the signal to the solenoid to engage the starter. Easy to check

When you cut the key on the pump come on My want come on I replace all the relays included the starter relay. Please help me.

I have a 2002 suzuki volusia intruder 805cc. Just got it. Replaced the battery, tried cranking it. When attempting to start it, it makes a rapid clicking noise. Is that a bad starter?

I would try replacing the starter relay first and if that doesn’t fix it I would look at the starter itself.

I've put almost 50 thousand miles on it , parked it for a year to have a shoulder replaced , went to ride and no start , checked starter , it's good , will check relay next ... Thanks Much
