Get a tiller extension to allow you to sit further forward to keep the stern from digging a hole in the water. You'll go faster and get better economy. And yeah- sit on the starboard side.

Hi. I'm looking at my first Dinghy and motor. I found this motor used locally.. in like new condition.. for $400. I was initially looking at the Yamaha.. but this price is really good. Are there any negatives you can tell me about it? Can it be transported on its side like the Yamaha? Thx.
@rocket6855 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, the engines a great and lightweight. Still use it today with the same dinghy on the sea. Can be transported on its side but I have it raised slightly. Water-cooled so over heating isn't an issue never been a fan of air cooled. Any other questions let me know and sorry for the late reply. 😀

I recently bought a DF2.5 (2020 model) 20" Shaft motor and It works perfectly fine except, when I try to steer at quarter to half throttle, the steering becomes stiff. So every time I have to turn, I have to bring the motor to a complete idle and then steer. The steering tension adjusting knob is set to loose. any advice on this is much appreciated. I have seen the same problem reported by another person in suzuki outboard forums and no one so far has been replied.

Question friend: Does the motor jerk when you go into gear? Do you turn the throttle down to the choke diagram before shifting? I just bought this and it seems the idle is set too high. From half to full throttle there is no difference in speed or pitch/noise.

have this motor and will never buy a little Suzuki outboard again. I am a fan of the brand, but this outboard is a design failure. The jets are WAY too prone to blocking. I guess they designed them too tiny. Even if you take all the precautions and drain the bowl and run the engine out of fuel before storage they will fail after a while. It seems every time I get to the boat to use it, it goes straight back to the workshop. I'm going to sell this Suzuki and get a 2 stoke Yamaha 3 hp, or a 3.5 hp 2 stroke Tohatsu. They won't give me a single problem in 40 years of use. Some forums say you can swap out the original jets for larger jets on the Suzuki, but its a hassle I could do without.
@rocket6854 жыл бұрын
Never had one issue with Jets Paul. do you use the engine a lot? Most people I know who has one has not either. Mines used on the sea now.
@youngypaul4 жыл бұрын
@@rocket685 Don't use often, but use non-ethanol fuel, fuel additive and drain fuel from the carb, and run the engine to starve of fuel before storage. My other Yamaha and Tohatsu starts second pull after not using for months at a time.
@RKalos4 жыл бұрын
Your jets are fine.Your engine stalls because your tank cap is prone to water leaking.You must use an engine cover after use in order to prevent the engine from taking water to the tank. Clean your carb and your tank and try

Your sat on the wrong side, the Kill cords not connected, your sat too far back, NO life jacket and your creating a wake amongst moored boats....= tit
@rocket6856 жыл бұрын
The wake hardly effected any of the boats, and in all fairness it's about showing what the engine can do not how I pilot a tender. Oh and I was the only one on a boat in the area. Don't like the starboard side and I have more control over the tiller on the port side. Thanks for watching.
@rocket6853 жыл бұрын
@sup Not bad manners at all. one, they are swing moorings in the middle of a lake where no one is about. Two if they were about I knew them pretty well. Three, like I said it hardly made any swell and there's a 5mph speed in the channel and the dinghy does about 4.5mph flat out. Your comment is completely pointless. Now if I had been doing 15 in a power cruiser which happens a lot yeah, you have the right to comment and say that. Don't nitpick...

Don't see how he is sitting on the wrong side here. For a right handed person anyway. And as for the kill cord it's not like he was in a situation that warranted it to be worn. Some people just want to watch the world burn I guess...
@MrBlurberries8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter if you're right or left handed, you're supposed to sit on the starboard side because that's where all the controls are. fuel, gear, etc. Arm is on the other side so you have room to sit on the starboard side.

I get that it's not the intended side to sit on but I have been doing it for about 8 years now and never liked the starboard side.
