I apologise for the length of this video at the start. Having done over 45,000 miles on my old vstrom I test rode a 2018 model, for sale at Orwell Motorcycles in Ipswich. I had wondered whether a newish Vstrom could replace my beloved Tigga and found that it probably could.

Have a '17 DL 650 and had the chance to trade it in on a '22 Z900. I bought the Z and couldn't part with the VStrom.I've been getting used to the 900 and can't believe how comfortable the DL is. 30,000 hard miles on it with 0 problems. It will be with me ,until I can't ride anymore. One is a Corvette and the other is a Cadillac. Long live VStroms!

Yes. Fantastic recipe, brilliantly executed, delivers time and time again. It doesn’t matter if it’s a new or a first gen model. They’re all fabulous. Utter biking perfection, and lowish power takes nothing away from their success. Comfortable, well designed, nicely made, well balanced, torquey, great handling, practical and versatile and utterly dependable. Best of all they’re cheap. Best bike in history.

I have it, the XT model. At first I wasn't very excited about the power, but after some spirited riding I fell in love. This will let you ride like a maniac if you want because the handling is superb! No chicken strip on the rear tire. I never had this much confidence in any other bike I've ridden. It's strange because you can take this thing off road! And it loves it. It doesn't care as long as you don't take it on single track trails. This is a gem.

@@TAYM exactly, it's not a Hayabusa or some 100 kilo single cylinder dirt bike, but it's practically everything in-between. Any bike could use a bit more power, that's just how we think, but if you start using it as an adventure/happiness machine and enjoy the ride, you can't help but fall in love. At least I can't.

I’ve been riding for 52 years and have owned around 40 bikes. None were over 800cc, as I’m into light weight, ease of ownership, and nimble handling over massive horsepower. My current primary bike is a 2nd generation DL650 Adventure, and it might be my favorite UJM of all time.

Great review. I have one year with it and it is awesome....reliable all around bike. And I love the dash...tgat hybrid analogue LCD dash for me is great...not like all the huge TFT dash of other bikes. For me it has 3 flaws: 1. No LED lights... 2. No Cruise control 3. No abs switch to turn it off Lets hope that the next Vstrom 650 gen comes with the 1050 design and cruise control!!

the vstrom 650 has always been a sort of 'goldilocks bike'. It's not great at any one thing, but for most things it's 'just right'..... No matter how many new 'better' bikes I test ride, I still can't seem to part ways with my well modded 2006 !

I consider it the best “budget bike” on the planet, especially if you buy one used. They give you WAY more than the small price would suggest. Sure, you can get a more satisfying mid-sized adventure bike, but you must be willing to pay dearly for it. ANYBODY should be able to afford a lightly used Wee-Strom and they would be compromising very little for a lot of savings.
