Suzuki DR 650 HQ Soundcheck with Stock, LeoVince x3 and MSR Exhaust

Sound check with different exhausts on a Suzuki DR 650 SE (SP46) with Holeshot manifold.

I got my new LeoVince x3 together with a Holeshot manifold after the dull wool of my 12.000km MSR was fading due to a broken flame screen. Waiting for the new exhaust I was passing my time by binging tons of LeoVince videos on YT most of whom were poorly recorded with smart phones. This mostly destroys the whole sound by distorting the signal, compressing the sh*t out of it (which ruins the overall loudness impression and comparability) and messing up the frequency response. So time for some higher quality recordings of my currently available exhausts.
Exhausts used:
* Suzuki Stock (0:39)
* MSR stainless steel round (with and without silencer, 0:55 and 1:11)
* LeoVince x3 (with both silencers, 1:25 and 1:41)
Studio microphones:
* AKG C3000 (large diaphragm condenser for the lower end)
* AKG C1000 (small diaphragm condenser for the presence)
Preamp/Interface:
* Focusrite Scalett 2i2
Software:
* Debian Linux (O/S)
* Jack (soundserver)
* Audacity (wave editor)
* KDEnlive (video editing)
The recording was made at 48kHz/24bit. There was no clipping, the maximum peak was at ~-7dB. Both microphones are crossovered at 1kHz. There is nearly no post processing except a limiter for clearing out the highest spikes to enhance the audible range. This doesn't change the acoustic impression nor the loudness since the human brain already filters this kind of transients.
TL;DR: Clean recording, nearly no processing, the impression of loudness and sound correlates with the real experience.

Hallo Markus, ich hab mir das Video jetzt bestimmt 25 mal reingeföhnt und lache mich jedes Mal kaputt. Ist mit Abstand das beste DR Auspuffvideo das da draußen rumschwirrt. Ich hasse solche Handyaufnahmen „Ey zieht euch mal rein was die Karre für nen geilen sound hat!“ - wie soll sowas gehen? Danke dass du den Aufwand betrieben und dir die Zeit genommen hast. Ich liebe solche Perfektionisten wie dich. Einmal richtig gemacht und das Problem ist erledigt. Werde mir definitiv den LeoVince holen. Zwar finde ich den Sound vom MSR ganz geil weil der noch bissl tiefer klingt aber nachdem was ich über die Qualität dieser Blechbüxe gelesen habe sehe ich im LeoVince die bessere Wahl. Dürfte ich noch fragen was für einen Krümmer du da dran hast und kannst du den weiterempfehlen? Gruß

Hey Simon, vielen Dank! :) JDen LeoVince fahre ich jetzt selbst, weil er einfach deutlich hochwertiger ist und mir aber der Sound auch besser gefällt. Lauter != besser imho. Der Krümmer kommt von Hessler Racing Team (dr-big-shop:de), es ist der HRT Leistungskrümmer. Ich bin mit dem sehr zufrieden, optisch sowie was die Leistung angeht.

Yep. The whole muffler. My old school vance & hines sport bike exhaust with custom db-killer/spark arrestor sounds better than all of these....

I'm from Germany. In general, motor cycle license plates in Germany are way smaller these days but used to be that big in the past. In those days one had to have a *very* old motor cycle to get smaller plates, today it's the normal thing. So I had some discussions with authorities to get the bigger plate from past times :) Like it.

Servus ! Kannst du mir verraten was du beim LeoVince mit langem Killer neu am Vergaser angepasst hast ? Ich bin momentan an meiner Sp46 dran und hab aber nur den Endtopf mit original Lufi und Krümmer dran. Beste Grüße !

Hey Friedrich, sorry, ganz übersehen, Deinen Kommentar. Ich habe mir einen Flachschieber eingebaut, den ich habe vom Hessler bedüsen lassen (Hessler Motorsport, hat den weltbesten Shop für DR650). Funktioniert prima. Habe ein paar andere Düsen getestet, müsste aber eigentlich auf den Messstand damit. Läuft aber super soweit.

Hey Michael, der Halter: amazon.de/gp/product/B00FEFWJDW der Reflektor: amazon.de/gp/product/B006BZDJVA die Kennzeichenbeleuchtung: amazon.de/gp/product/B00HVDSSI0 Aber eine dringende Warnung: die hat sich bei mir irgendwann auf der Autobahn abvibriert und mir beim Abfallen den Reifen aufgeschlitzt, ohne, dass ich das mitbekommen habe. Als die Karre anfing rumzueiern, bin ich runter von der Bahn und hab' die Schmiere angerufen, die haben mir das Ding dann vom Standstreifen gepflückt. Gab kein Nachspiel, ausser eben neuer Hinterreifen und den Stress wegen neuem Kennzeichen.

It's very comfy. It's the original seat I brought to a saddler who put some new foam (much stiffer) and a new cover on.

Hey! They aren't sold in the EU anymore because of this. Additionally at least in Germany no new bike without ABS will get a registration. So the only possibilities (at least in Germany) I'm aware of are: 1. Get someone moving from e.g. Canada to the EU so the bike is declared part of the relocating goods. 2. Get an old frame and re-assemble all parts of the new bike to the old frame

How did you get the msr exhaust and was it bolt on fit on the dr ?

I ordered it at www dot msr-exhaust dot it but wouldn't recommend it because of low quality. It came with a flame screen which broke after a couple of kilometers because of the vibrations of the single cylinder. Additionally the rubber cushion of the clamp around the back exhaust melted (!). The guy wasn't willing to send replacements without getting a lot of money so I switched to the LeoVince which is of much better quality. However - the MSR came with a connecting piece between manifold and back exhaust which was fitting perfectly. On manifolds end there's a clamp and on exhausts end there's two springs. You can see it in the video @ 0:33.

That's exactly what I made the video for - a real, undistorted and uncompressed comparison of the different exhausts I had available. The difference in volume between stock and LeoVince reflects the reality. I added links to the times in the video for easier comparison. Headphones are recommended. Turn down the volume so LeoVince is at an average level and you'll barely hear the stock one. Crank up the volume so stock is quite loud then LeoVince will blow your headphones.

Measuring by decibels: the loudest rev of engine with stock exhaust is as loud as the idle LeoVince with short dB eater.

Ich fahr den leo mit kurzem killer. Sobald die dämmwolle ein bisschen weg ist ist das soo schweine laut. Beim supermoto rideout bin ich immer der lauteste (und das mit killer) Alle fahren im abstand von 2m zueinander... immer wenn ich in den rückspiegel schaue halten die alle erstmal 30m abstand😂😂😂😜
