Suzuki DR 650 review

In Australia the Suzuki DR 650 is often affectionately called the Bush Pig. Unfortunately you can no longer buy the big bore dual sport new in this country but I was keen to get my hands on a new one before the new rules come in. I look at why this bike is so special down under and talk about why I wanted one and what I plan to use it for.

They're actually a 17" rim on the rear. 120/90-17 tyre size from factory. Love my DR, only one bike so perfect commuter and weekend trail rider for me.

Alot of people in Australia rushed out and got one and now u cant buy them they are trying to sell them for ridiculous prices personally i will keep mine forever i love it

Same here, I intend to keep mine for a very long time ... I also toyed with the idea of buying a second DR650 when I heard they were discontinuing their availability in Australia because of ABS regulations. But unfortunately money and space is limited. :>)

I just purchased a 2024 DR650 in the US. My kickstand seams a little short. I feel like the bike is going to fall over when I rest the bike. Can’t imagine they are much different. I also added a wind screen and replaced the headlight with a Cyclops LED. What a difference! Good video

Yes my bike stands up to straight on the kickstand and has fallen over because of it. And yes the standard lights aren't the best.

Thank you for the review and taking us along for the ride ! I just bought a 2002 DR650 today with 17,000 miles on it . Look forward to going over the bike and getting used to " Road Riding " . I've been in the dirt my whole life with a 1978 Suzuki PE175 and RM 250 so I reckon this DR 650 will fit in with the rest of the family . 😀 The DR is due for tires and I'm thinking about the Dunlop 606 as most of my riding will be on dirt and gravel roads ?

Probably no different to my 2022 model ... and at 17,000 miles it is only just run in on a bike as reliable as the DR 650. ENJOY

🇦🇺😎👍The Big DRasaurass …. Get your suspension done and definitely change the pipe and the handle bars….lol what brakes🤣….the bessablockasaurass seatasaurass…I had an IT465 j in 1982. That turned out to be a baptism of fire 🔥 as I flipped it on the bitumen 15 minutes away from the showroom 😳….The reason the bike stands up too much is because the front suspension is sagging . Your bike needs a complete front end rebuild at minimum…17” on the rear..the DR400 has an 18” I think… you are a similar ht and size to me ( get a handle bar raise kit )…Great honest review ..Scenic Rim Sth east QLD

I am organising to buy a dr 650 and do what your doing .screw paying 15 20 and up 25 grand just to go ride dirt roads .drop one of those fuel injected electronic controlled things in the creek in the middle of no where ,and you have a problem .the dr is the tank the world needs .

Hi Jim, Yes the DR is definitely bullet proof and easy to fix if anything did ever go wrong. But my experience is that is very unlikely to happen.

In the 90s there were no motorcycle reviews, maybe someone can have one from that year on VHS that was recorded on a TV show. Any motorcycle deserves a review and, especially motorcycles like this one, which is an icon that continues to be manufactured and sold at 0 miles in some parts of the world.

I miss the two strokes I used to ride sooooo much. Unfortunately there is little choice with new road registerable motorcycles now. Which is why I'm on the hunt for an old two stroke in good condition that will allow me to ride one on the road again.

🤣🤣🤣yeah, I hate all that low down torque and longer lasting and quiet motors too. Thank goodness 2-smokes have to premix too that's always fun. What I like is cruising on the highway on a two smoke, so pleasant.

@@armadilllo would love to get my hands on one of the old Kawasaki triple cyclinder two strokes but I don't think there would be too much cruising involved on one of those. They loved to rev and go fast :>)
