Now tubless on the T7, so plug kit & the motopressor from Rocky Creek designs stay in a small bag on the crash bar. Spare 21" tube under the seat. Aluminum bead breakers & trail stand home fabbed from some old crutches in the tool roll bungied to the solo seat rack. The big rig is heavy enough without some monster center stand clanking about the belly. Not going there. The trail stand works a charm to lift front or rear once you find the key positions. I use it in the shop for tyre swaps & chain maintenance to get practiced.
@MVDBR4 жыл бұрын
Good call on the old crutch I have done the same thing :) Bit of a bitch to lift the front but I can manage by myself. Rear is a piece of cake. I agree on the centre stand, stuff having that big dag under the bike. Did you do the tubeless conversion yourself with Sikaflex or something like that?

@@MVDBR no worries, I guess it depends on what she is using the bike for ? yourself & Jess probably take your Adventure bikes we’re most will not ( GOLD ) I think in general most bikes will not do everything great , hence you getting your T7 to do more ADV / long distance stuff and would be difficult on the 500 & 300 . I had a DRZ for years a great 👍 reliable bike but a bit dated now . What about a Husky 701 - I think the perfect 50/50 do it all bike 165kg wet , only problem is the seat height for shorter riders. I know this is a bit out there but the Royal Enfield 400 Himalayan - Probably just as off road capable as the 390 - maybe better ? , they are fuel ⛽️ injected now ( and low seat height, fantastic price new and cone with a 3 year warranty. Haha nah no lever in the tyre, bit of a mystery though single hole on the side of the tube, can't imagine it was a pinch on those easy trails with 25psi in there. Yeah I guess Mick & Kylie are in the same situation as us, pretty sure they're keeping the chook chasers so really the ZEE doesn't make any sense. What puts me off it is the thought of being on the last day of a 3 dayer to Kroombit, with still another 200km to home and being sat on that thing the whole time. Painful.

IF Honda release crf300l and 300l rally in aus (released in Thailand and we Asia last week) - be worth a look - sort of between the two - not as off road capable as drz by way more ground clearance and off road capable than ktm. Tech is sort between both - not the analogue clock of the drz but also not quite the “organic soy cappuccino modes” of the ktm.. weight 139kg . 31 hp 26nm torque. Switchable abs. Usual bullet proof Honda so under tuned for reliability , over weight (which isn’t always bad in the long road sections) - rally is much bigger bike in all respects - feels more like a mini tenere and heavier than L version . 300 engine is quite an uplift from 250 (I have both) - I have a rally with the cbr300r swap - sunny coast based so could offer a test flight ... although mine is old school it might give an insite into what new bike will be like.

@dustinanderson58864 жыл бұрын
Yep Kawi just announced a KLX300 and in January they'll be announcing a bigger bike (probably a fuel injected KLR650). So those are a couple options to keep in mind. Also don't forget KTM supposedly has a 490ADV in the works.... but who knows when that will happen. Another potential contender would be the BMW 310GS. Although I feel the KTM is superior. Personally I feel like the 390 is probably the way to go. At least with whats available right now. It just checks so many different boxes. Its far and away a much better road bike while still being say 80% of the offroad capability of the DRZ. Much love for the DRZ but its a dinosaur in serious need of an update.

@@MVDBR Agreed, you might also consider what will be your worst/most difficult terrain, which bike copes best with it and how much road riding you can put up with on that bike. Also it pays to lie the fully loaded bike down and try to pick it up. Nothing is perfect. 640 BC, LOL. I think that KTM is afraid of their own engine (390). If they built a light 390 enduro it would be a serious rival for their EXC's, of course the pro would still buy them but the average joe would prefer the 390 due to longer service intervals and the longevity of the engine. What do you think about my hypothesis?
@MVDBR4 жыл бұрын
The 390 engine as it is doesn't have anywhere near enough low down grunt to be a decent enduro weapon, but I'm sure they could retune it for better range of power. You might be onto something there :)
@MrKdr5004 жыл бұрын
Why would they build a 390 Enduro when they already have 350/450 EXC's? to assume 10k service intervals in bush riding would be silly, that's why enduro riders go with an hour meter... 10k km's in the bush would be 3-4 times more engine hours than regular road riding.
@Dontortellini34 жыл бұрын
@@MrKdr500 because this bike is what many guys- me included- want from Yamaha and Suzuki. A light but reliable low maintenance wr450r (as an upgrade from the 250r) or updated drz 400 which last 30k km's and more without making you broke. This sport is expensive enough. Rebuilding an engine after 10k means it was a pure race engine and not an dual sport. And, by the way, in the EU most of the sport Enduro bikes are officially extremely corked up. KTM 390 Adventure first, daylight second! You need to put slime in your tyres, never get a puncture again!

Split the difference Dr650 or KTM 690 - your not choosing a bike your choosing your riding style. Josh when that happens the little piggy is supposed to go wheelie wheelie wheelie all the way home!
@MVDBR4 жыл бұрын
DR650 now we're talking. Mate maybe if I was on the 500 the wheelie home would be an option. Wheelying the T7 is kinda like making KZbin videos, a lot of effort for fck all payoff hahaha

to anyone trying to get an adventure bike i give my opinion and try to save people some headache if they care enough to read all my ramble. i have owned transalps, AT, DR350, XR650 and 600, KLR250 and 650, CRM125, Versys 650, XT600 and 660, multistrada1200, GS800. been an chief mechanic for BMW and Ducati. DO NOT BUY the 390 adventure, its a true piece of crap, now that i said the most blunt part of my comment, lets start by the comparison to the DRZ400, it is pointless since the DRZ is far from an adventure bike, its an enduro dualsport, its not meant to go on long distance trips, for many reasons. the DUKE is a poorly made bike, quality is appalling, the bike is too heavy for the size it has, because the tellis tubing is thick and shit, i have seen more 390 engines blown up in my workshop than any other motorcycle, sure, it has become super popular so there are a lot around, but i cant remember the last time someone brought a KLR with a blown up engine. the front wheel is really bad offroad for beginners and the "lower vibrations" seem that way because of the super oversquare design, but the reality is that, at sustained highway speeds of around 140km/h the high frequency vibration that it produces is immensely annoying, mainly because the bike has very little torque and at very high RPM so once you start getting luggage, you are constantly stringing the engine hard on highway, the suspension is quite harsh for an adventure bike and unsettles very easily when pushing it on harsh terrain. if you are seriously thinking on getting an all around ADV bike, get a DR650, its lighter, has way more torque, its way more reliable, aftermarket is massive. much more comfortable and capable offroad, sure, you will lose a bit of cornering ability with the big 21 at front, but its an adventure bike, not an sportbike. an anecdote, i was asked by some friends a couple of years ago to embark on a 3000km motorcycle trip, i just sold my xr650 so i had no adventure bike, so they lend me a demo unit of a duke 390 adventure from the dealership, 3 of them where on the Benelli TRK502 and 1 in a versys 300, after the first 800km or so i asked one of them to lend me the benelli, and boy, even the cheap chinese bike felt so much better on the road. on the returning part of the trip, we were doing average of 150/160km/h and guess what, the KTM decided it was too much work and threw a rod out 200km before arriving.

I hate that KTM is so unreliable. But the entire lineup looks so damn good. Even the huskys. The tech is amazing too. 😭😭😭
