Getting this engine back in was a nightmare. Looking back, i really shouldn't have bothered without a jack. Sorry about the wind-noise, there was a storm in the country at the time.

That good sir was for the vacuum canister to be bolted to. All around great work! Got the knack for it! A lot more gifted then myself

Respect! ... I've a probably broken gs 500 engine here and didn't know where I get myself into ... I'll contemplate over it now ...

Good on ya for these videos. My brother in law helped me get mine in. It was a beast.

Great job! Finally someone posts a nice how-to regarding gs 500! Mine has been in the workings for a while now, need to open the bottom and check the crank shaft... but rusted bolts and lack of know how keep me from progressing. I might just buy a second hand engine and keep mine for parts x)

+Arvix ha, it's all good fun in the end. Is your frame stripped down?

@@jonnoMoto thanks mate, I ended up finding 30 min after the video 😂

Where do you need to mount the other end of the thick black cable that comes from the starter motor? ( seen at 9:22 )
@jonnoMoto3 жыл бұрын
Thats a fuel hose that goes into the bottom of the carbs

I like ur video 😂 next time put the engine under the bike then pull it up with a jak or cable

Dude. Lay the motor on its side and lay the bike over it 🤦♂️ done bigger bikes by myself like that. This bike is light
@jonnoMoto9 ай бұрын
That's what I do. I ve done it with heavier bikes too.

So, how is this coming along?

André Rodrigues hi, all finished and on the road last December. Been on the trip too. I've started the final videos a long time a go but little motivation to finish them
@foil6666 жыл бұрын
Well, there's obviously no rush. Just do it when you feel like it. How did the gs behave?
@jonnoMoto6 жыл бұрын
André Rodrigues yeah, id rather be outside than behind a pc this summer. Bike struggled at the top of stelvio pass and gulped the fuel down on the autobahn wide open for over 900miles straight, other than that she didn't miss a beat.

Great job, can you explain the carb a bit more in detail im having trouble connecting the fuel lines
@DTMotorcyclesEssex3 жыл бұрын
Did u manage to sort out ur fuel lines I’m also finding it quite confusing lol
@jonnoMoto3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I just saw the video of yours. All that stuff coming out of the top of the carbs are emissions stuff. I replaced the tops with older ones which didn't have that. I reckon you could just plug them instead. The other top hose (quite big) just vents into the airbox. The bottom hose which is connected to some flexy t-junction is the fuel feed from the tap. The fuel tap is a bit tricky. I looked at Google and every pic I found seemed different. I just connected it up with the hoses that lengths seemed to fit the best.

@@jonnoMoto thanks for advice Jonno I’m gonna try plugging them top pipes and when I connect it all up gonna just guess if it don’t work then will give them they old switcheroo until it does work Lool 🤣👊🏻

im currently tearing down the engine ( out of frame ) and FUCKING HELL THIS EXHAUST IS STUCK! i currently have the frame completely stripped and repainted completely black, in my case im just gonna put the block in the grass and lift the frame over top on it! shouldnt be that hard right? ....right? :')
@jonnoMoto2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would be the best method. It's what I've done with bigger engine and worked a treat

Sounded like a fuel injection problem
@jonnoMoto5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have fuel injection. Has a carb per cylinder.
