So the selector fork was the problem in this case to hold 6th gear?

Yes, the wear on the lower selector fork was preventing 3rd-4th gear (combined/joined) into 6th, though there was little damage to the gear itself....
Rode hard & put away wet. GSXR 1000 splitting the cases to inspection transmission.
