I just bought a bike that has these already installed, and I would like to change them out. Do you know what kind of adhesive is used on the left grip? Trying to figure out the best way to get that one off.

Hi mate (sweet car by the way). I remember these being an absolute pain to remove. Whoever installed it could've used any adhesive really. Try twisting them first...that might break the seal and they'll slide off. If they're the exact same model it might not work as the rubber will start going under the case. Alternative is a long thin rod that you can insert from the cap end and try to break up the the glue. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for sharing. I couldn't exactly see you degreasing the surface. Compressed air and the needle nozzle will force grips off like a boss. When being careful with it. The engine obviously won't start when throttle free play is not observed and applied.

throttle free play?
@AlfredMoi7 жыл бұрын
The throttle is applied differently with the handlebar turned for an example. These cables need a minimum free play of one or two millimeter. Slightly off specification can also activate the throttle body. Activation by cable adjustments is therefor a problem of free play. Engines with throttle applied have little chance of firing up immediately. One cable pulls the other back down and this adds to the fun of adjusting when it needs fresh lube or strands of wire came loose and it is kind of stuck without being pulled sufficiently.

The camera is on the WRONG SIDE of the handle bars ! You need to rethink your camera placement to show a much greater clarity of the work performed to install new grips .

Thinking about attempting switch out but I see you kinda struggling and I know I don't have the strength 😫

@@victoriaking1375 Hi Victoria. Yes, it can be a bit stubborn. Depends on what was used to secure it in the first place (glue? silicon?).

I just installed these on my 03 VL 800, and I had two issues I was wondering if anyone else had. First one is the throttle seems to not sit flush on the bar, so there is a lot of wiggle there as compared to the factory (meaning you can jiggle it a little bit both up and down and rotating it). I took it for a ride and it’s not very noticeable riding, but not ideal. Second issue: on the left grip the rubber on the inside prevents the grip from going over the wider metal part at the inside of the bar, which stops it from sitting perfectly flush. This just makes it a little unsightly. I suppose I could take it off and cut part of the rubber off of it.

Hi George. Firstly, I'm sure you did check but..have you bought the right diameter for your bars? 7/8 or 1inch. That would explain the movement you got up and down. Secondly, by wider metal part at the inside of the bar...do you mean the bar end weight? That needs to come off.
