This is probably the best car review I have ever seen, I really like that you are telling consumers exactly what they need to know rather than just voicing your opinion. You have clearly done your research and know a lot more about the car than even the dealer did. Anyway I recently purchased a Jimny as my second car because I live very rural and I'm just love taking it out in the nearby mountains. As much as it sucks on the freeway it gives me a happy joyful feeling behind the wheel and when you go off-road you feel unstoppable. I'm actually tempted to take it on an extended road trip soon, not because it's the best option available to me but merely because I love sitting behind the wheel of it.

I live in Japan on the side of a mountain with my son. We commute daily into the city and this car has proven perfect for our lifestyle, balancing rural life, rural terrain, extreme weather, crowded & narrow city streets, etc. The list goes on. With the rear seats down, it’s perfect for two people and all the stuff we need carry. It’s also the only compact economy “kei car” that my son doesn’t feel embarrassed to be seen in next to the posh cars at his school carpark. I was lucky enough to go into the dealer on a day they were decommissioning the test drive model and snapped it up to avoid the six-month waiting list. The Kei model is turbocharged and very nippy within city speed limits and country lanes. I’m puzzled by the poor safety points for pedestrians because recently, a person ran out in of me and the car did a perfect emergency stop all by itself. Indeed, the safety tech is too sensitive in my opinion as it often and annoyingly alerts me to non-existent hazards, which is one of the very few complaints I have. Great comprehensive review and as you say, there really is nothing like it.
@dposcuro5 жыл бұрын
I do believe the poor safety for pedestrians is as a result of actual impact performance testing. Pedestrian safety is going to be hindered by the lack of space between the grill and radiator. There just isn't much room to coddle a human torso, before that torso starts hitting the hard reinforcements that keep this vehicle intact when it hits something more substantial than a human torso.

Hello! In Japan, does this car fall under the category of kei cars? Thank you!
@justincaseu8124 жыл бұрын
@@yengsabio5315 The model reviewed in the video is not the kei version. I believe the kei version is available only in Japan. The model in the video is called "Jimny Sierra" in Japan but simply called "Jimny" when exported. There are two main differences between the kei version and the export version that I'm aware of and discounting trim & equipment level variations within the model range. The kei version comes with a 3-cylinder 660cc engine with turbo + intercooler. The kei version does not have the extended wheel arches therefore having narrower wheels.

One mistake from reviewer, actually you can use new Jimny as an everyday car and only car, unlike its previous generation new jimny has much more soft suspension feel, good leg space for all 4 passengers, good height for your head too, the manual gear is also very comfortable and car is easy to drive in general, it is actually more comfortable to drive than new land rover defender, while being very economical with manual only 6.3 l per 100km, which is 40 mpg. Yes ofc it is not as comfortable as new Vitara or range rover evoque, yes the car starts to have little noise after 110km/h the wind noise and it is not that fast and sporty on the road and city, but you can drive it in city and on road while being comfortable and not getting tired, because seats are comfortable, easy to drive and soft, with all the electronic equipment like navigation, Bluetooth media heated seats, climate control and etc. Everything. which is enough for me to use it as everyday car cuz I also need to go off road Time to time and I enjoy doing it more than anything else

Yes, I have droven it for 1h (Suzuki dealer tryal). On roads and off road, with my wife and my 21 year old son on board. Uneexpectedly comfortable, spacey, quiet, with head and leg room for everybody. Also not as slow as expected. Don't see a problem for allaround use. And people almost lost their eyes, when seeing this car. It is a cool looking car, indeed and enormous fun to drive. Cars like this started the 4x4 movement 25 years ago (Pajero, LandCruiser), what has turned to SUV mania seeing nowdays. But today's SUVs are just a joke. This is the basic 4x4, with basic drive joy
@pauldotdll32764 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. I rented one for a day, and I was really surprised with how well it drove. I was scared it would be horrible, as almost all reviewers made it out to be on the road but it really was not. Of course it's not an MX-5 or a m3, which means you shouldn't drive it like one. It got decent up to speed, and could follow traffic. Was comfortable driving 250 km on the county roads. I didn't try it on the highway so I can't speak for that. All I can say is, I was smiling the whole time. It's such a fun and interesting car. I easily did 6l/100km driving county roads which in my eyes, is very good. Yes, the trunk is nearly non existent but with the rear seats down, it's just alright. If it had no rear seats, people would just have complained about that.

One of the better reviews I've seen, very comprehensive, top marks. I put a deposit down on a manual Jungle Green version back in March this year, hoping to get it by the end of the year. The only doubt I have is range with only a paltry 40 litres of fuel on board. I'm in Australia and plan to do a lot of outback touring with big distances between fuel stops so I may have to look for an after-market reserve tank so I don't take up valuable cargo space with extra jerry cans. If a reserve tank isn't available then I'll just have to travel extra light. Other than that, can't wait to get it!

I have to correct one statement here about the Jimny in Iceland. It is by far not the only SUV or truck that can drive on glaciers here or in the winter in snow covered highlands. We modify our trucks and SUV's heavily for those trips. The Jimnys that are driven in the highlands are usually equipped with 33"-35" tires because it is so light. The heavier the vehicle the larger tires we gernerally use for snow wheeling. Most of the vehicles use 38"-46" tires. Many american trucks are going bigger like the F350 and Rams that are driving on 49"-54" tires. By no means is the Jimny the only allowed vehicle for the highlands in Iceland. It is however, along with Dacia Duster a popular choice as a rental car for tourists to travel within Iceland during summer. And those are absolutely not equipped for traversing a glacier or the highlands in the winter. But otherwise a nice review. Regards from Iceland.

A 2015 Jimny (previous generation) is about £10,500 or so on Autotrader. That's about 80% of original retail. This new Jimny has a 2 year waiting list, and many are being sold nearly new for as much as £3,000 above list price. 2 years from now the waiting list might be more sensible, but the idea that this car is going to be 51% of its original retail value after 3 years is not realistic - 80% (like the old model) is much more likely, and if the waiting lists are still long, perhaps even more than that. This car is likely to hold its value like no other car on the road. Probably because this car is like no other car in the world. It has no competition really, there are no other small offroaders with twin solid live axles and a selectable low range 4wd system. None. It's closest rival is the Jeep Wrangler, which is in another class altogether. Even the Land Cruiser mentioned in this video does not have twin sold axles anymore. In fact, the closest thing to competition the 4th gen Jimny has, bizarrely, is the 3rd gen Jimny!!!

As some comments have said some people understand the Jimny others wont. I had Landrovers for many years and they were good for what they were used for, I used an SJ 413 long wheelbase pickup for a year and it was as good off road as my Landrovers and far superior on road being faster [not a lot] quieter [a lot] and used a lot less petrol. the new Jimny in standard spec is good on road for the type of vehicle it is as well as being good offroad, add offroad tyres, manual locking front and rear diffs, a heavy duty clutch and a lower low range transfer gear [4 to 1 or lower] and it will make it excellent.

Surely being naturally aspirated and not having a turbo is the whole point of a robust 4x4 like this. Making the car and engine more abusible especially if its a 2nd car with low mileage use. Turbo's reduce reliability of cars, they have a financial cost in repair bills and maintenance. Turbo's in small displacement engines are some of the least reliable engines with the shortest life. I think the Suzuki remit is to provide a strong reliable car that you can take anywhere with perhaps the exception of your local dealer for repairs. Just feel if you are mentioning a lack of turbo it should be put into the context of why Suzuki have done that and not just stated as if it's some sort of design error by Suzuki as it comes across as if you don't understand why they have done that. Many Japanese car brands avoid or are reluctant to use turbo's in their engines. The current Mazda range for example and historically Toyota were not keen on them. Superchargers are much more reliable and better engineering for long term reliability but a simple naturally aspirated engine can last an extremely long time without much attention. I've heard of people paying up to £3,000 for turbo's to be replaced but it depends on the car and how easy to replace. Sometimes with quite low mileage too.

The Auto version is more suited to off road driving not paved roads. The manual will have you riding the clutch far to much due to it's small engine. The auto won't have this issue off road. That aside your review was very detailed and extremely well done.

Am wanting convertible full 4x4 Jimny,and want it in Canada. My 3.8 litre Jeep Wrangler,too expensive and horrible on gas. Why would they make Jimny without convertible

I have been watching all jimny review videos, and i think most of them are soft on the jimny problems and kinks. This is the most honest review yet. Still im buying the Jimny as my only car, and the automatic, because the brazilian manual version is completely stripped off. What a bummer, anyway, the best thing about the car is not even the offroad capability, is basicaly the only car that still has a masculine vibe, but a happy vibe, why all cars nowadays has an evil facia? The ones who buys Jimnys are the one who wants the world to be a happier place, lets get back to smiley, friendly, happy faces! The world is getting dark, we need positivity!

You are so lucky Europe for having this awesome mini Jeep car, I hope they lunch it in US. I heard that Suzuki is partner with Toyota to bring it to the US I hope is true 🥰🥰🥰
@ciedrickmarasigan19293 жыл бұрын
In case you didn't know, there was jimnies in the US back then, they're rebranded as suzuki samurai. But consumer report destroyed their reputation, forcing the jimny to pull out of the US market.

@@ciedrickmarasigan1929 thank, but I know that because I Google it already. That is sad that car was pull out of US market.

Looks nice. I used to be an owner of a Suzuki Samurai for about 15 years. But seriusly with allmost that kind of money we can buy a 3d Vitara or Rav 4. They are faster, more comfortable and trully more than 95% of our kilometers are on road and they are better for this purpose. Sedans and hardcore 4x4 are loosing the game. Suv is the future.

Personally I think they're seriously missing the mark by not putting out an engine option with more torque, like a turbodiesel or even turbopetrol. I mean what's it going to be like trying to tow anything with a nat petrol? I think they'd be snapped up in Northern Ireland with better towing.
