I used to ride in a bone stock ‘89 Wrangler 4cyl with factory tires, and all I ever used was a hand winch. It’s usually good practice to rig the winch on the anchor side so you don’t get run over in situations when you have a partner that can drive the vehicle. In fact, I’ve done this by myself before with the vehicle idling and wheels turning, but obviously dangerous in certain situations.

Put some MT rubbers before playing with such ”obstacles”. And air down a bit, regardless of what tyres you use.

@@ludicator I usually run them between 6 and 10 but this particular trip was 8psi. The tires are load range c and at 0 they still hold shape on the light samurai. My issue here was a combination of short wheel base and stock gears.

Don't worry about somebody showing you the ropes. Get there and learn. You did great here, you'll be fine. I think you've learned that tires and lockers do more than almost everything else.
