Unusual sound coming from somewhere in the engine. Can you help me figure out what is wrong with it? Hint Not the cam chain tensioner or the decompression solenoid.

Indeed. This week I will adjust valves in L650 so i will look better on this engine. That big singles need more care and "technical culture" than other engines to work fine, but it is very nice morotbike. Daily I rides BMW boxer (1150R) I don't have any problems witch this engine but savage need little carry ;) greetings

The snap ring failed somehow and the wrist pin was sliding out of the piston. This led to a catastrophic failure (engine exploded) with crash. I was not on the bike, lucky me.

It didn't handle it, it blew up. If you hear this sound on any bike, get it to a mechanic immediately.

burnt valves would lead to the motor not running at all due to lack of compression in the only cylinder.

How do you know its not the cam? I notice you have 23k miles. I have 19k. And although I have no knocking, it sounds great, but people on forums are telling me I need to check the tensioner which I am doing this weekend

Honestly guy it sounds like your starter still trying to fire intermittently I've got a 01 ls650 and one of the magnets in the starter try to renegade itself I believe my decomp solenoid is the problem I've got 12 volts to it starter got a brand new one starts off the bike even my old one after I personally re-glued the magnets within the starter and then reset the core inside of it it's not completely free spinning it's not bound up but the magnets inside there are four of them running lengthwise two of them slid together on one side and two slit together on the other side creating uneven pressure so it's still staying centered within the casing it's just got uneven pressure so that it's just working out weird but it even works well off the bike I haven't actually checked the starter relay but I guess I'm having to
