@@AdventurePiggy You're spot on! Buy a bike that's designed for the job, that suits your needs best, and don't part with your hard-earned cash until you get a demo. I think the Ténéré 700 is a great bike; the CP2 engine is a peach, I loved its road presence, and its load lugging capabilities. I bought my Ténéré 700 during lockdown, I couldn't get a demo, but it had a decent price at the time. But, eventually, I just got fed up with its high centre of gravity, plus the seat tends to force your legs out to the sides. I had a few hairy moments with it, and I'm 6' 2"! Once, during the rush hour, I nearly dropped my bike at the lights, when I put my foot in a pothole on a sunken road - it was very scary! It's no surprise to me that Yamaha have put lower, high capacity dual fuel tanks on the new Ténéré 700 World Raid. To be honest, the bike I really wanted was the Triumph Tiger 900 GT, but you just couldn't get hold of one due to supply problems back then. And, it was the same story at every dealership I rang, very annoying. In the end, I realised the Ténéré 700 wasn't the bike for me. I looked around, and got a fantastic deal on a new SV650. I fitted a Givi rack, I use my Givi boxes when required, and it suits me just fine. Over the last few years, adventure bikes have become very popular, but why buy one if you're never going to go off-road? If I was to go touring, I'd buy something that was road focus, like the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+, or a BMW R 1250 GS. If I was going off-road, I'd look at a lightweight dual sport motorcycle. 👍

This video has me all warm and fuzzy and cackling like a teenager. Love it. The underdog of bikes whoopin' up on big bad cars. I've owned 4 SV bikes (last gen) in my time, loved most of them. I'd wager the runs were so close with the Porsche, if you ran a full exhaust from M4 on that bike with an ECU flash, you'd have won those runs. Not to mention reducing bike weight (wheels, 520 chain conversion, other expensive stuff) would have made you that much quicker, probably into the high 11 second quarter. Never the less, your throttle control on launch is SO good. Goes to show how capable a 645cc twin is, with someone who can exploit the machine.

Great match ups. My first road bike was a Honda CB1300. I just liked the looks. The sound and the comfort. In a way it was similar to the SV. In that it wasnt renowned for being a fast or expensive bike. The engine was built to last forever with little maintenance. And it had all day comfort for two people apart from no fairing. Well... one day i found myself next to a Porsche GT3. The one with the scaffold inside. This thing was beautiful. Anyway i could see what we were up for. The driver of the Porsche nudged his car forward. And I could hear him bring the revs up. Well the light went green on this closed airfield and I gave the Honda everything. The front end came up just a whisker. The perfect amount for maximum acceleration. Well, I blew him to the weeds. Not kidding. It was no contest. Now dont get me wrong, if I could afford a supercar, a Porsche is really the only major brand that I get excited about. But I was reminded that the CB although no sport bike, it was no slouch either. Now, if we found a race circuit then the roles would be reversed for certain. All good fun. Cheers for the great content.

Passed my test June 2022 and got a new SV650 . I’m very new to riding but it’s a great bike . I’ve changed the ugly stock exhaust, crash bungs and rad guard and it’s perfect . Can’t wait for a Little better weather to get more time in the saddle .. my only regret is not getting a bike when much younger .. mid life crisis but great to now have two wheels

Is the cafe racer variant the same power? It underlines, perhaps, 70 - 75 bhp is a very good all-around number for enjoyment and having enough poke to get out of trouble/make quick and safe overtakes. Also, wasn't the BMW more powerful than the 911? Yet, it didn't go as fast?

I rode my '99 SV650S (it is yellow, so I call it 'Lil Bee, because women tell me it is cute) From Kitchener, Ontario, to Victoria, BC. 5000km ride, camped most of the way. phenomenal little bike. Easy and cheap to maintain, too. I've had all sorts of adventures on Vancouver Island. rode from the edge of Manitoba through Saskatchewan, to Calgary in a single day. Everyone should own an SV at some point in their life, I truly believe that!

Nice video, I like your delivery and particularly pace. Having riden an SV650 for many years I'd agree with your findings. Although out here in the West Country you have to contend with all these crazed loons in souped up Imprezas, Evo, Skylines, and on the country roads round here you often find it's not the stock cars you have to worry about, it's these guys and trust me it's as much as you can do to just about keep your ass out of the rhynes if it mix it up with them. The main big difference is with regualar traffic and what's fundementaly changed is the electric cars. Some of those things, shit., they move.

I have 75hp and a few more kg, more than enough on my local roads. Something I love to do is Motogymkhana, I reckon the SV would be a weapon in a car park full of cones. My first "big bike" was an SV650S with the blue fairings. It was a brilliant bike!!! Economical, reliable, cheap to run and insure, all round a great bike. Went to a GSXR750, which was obviously quicker but bit of overkill for the roads and only fun if you were gunning it everywhere at 80%. The current bike is an S1000R which is just a hooligan with everything though 😂

just to put things in perspective, we forget how fast we ride on our bikes. Last week at work i had to test a new porsche boxter with 300hp. I accelerated hard, went to highway a d dropped from 6th to 3rd a few times and floored it and thought to myself - holly crap this is an extremely fast car! went back to the office and compared 0-100 and 0-160kmh times of a stock sv650 (have one from 2004) and this boxter to realize my bike is faster than the 300hp car which in my country costs a pornographic price

The SV's best quality (with suspension upgrades) is its performance in twisties and the amount of torque it has. It's a really fun bike in twisties if you're a confident rider., it doesn't need tons of power.

Awful stock suspension for fast riding though so suspension upgrades are a must if you’re trying to ride at any sort of reasonable pace

Wow! I was given one of these as a hire bike when I crashed my FZ8 years ago and the first thing I remember about it, is how much fun it was to chuck around and how stable it felt in the rain when commuting. The throttle on mine used to cut out at what I thought was quite low revs, but watching this, I wonder if the hire company had some kind of speed restriction kit on it LOL

Love these kinds of vids! You asked for ideas.. Maybe slap a pipe and dyno tune / ECU flash and some parts on that bike and see how much more performance you can get out of it, then race some faster cars? Maybe do some 30 mph roll races, etc.? I'm not sure if these bikes respond well to tunes or not though. Also different types of bikes against different types of cars would be fun to see in general on the channel. ✌

These can be tuned quite a bit, lots of mods available because of the super twin race class. Some builders getting 100hp out of the sv engine
@bwxmoto2 жыл бұрын
@@slakk5093 That's cool. Like on my XSR I know there's a quick and easy 10+ HP with a pipe and ECU flash, I wonder how the SV would do with just that? Modern bikes are usually pretty corked up from factory it seems.

One thing about bike vs car drag racing is that it requires more skill and judgement operate the bike for performance. Some cars still have manual transmissions, but many (especially in the US) have some sort of auto/automanual which takes less skill. My brother in law bragged about how quickly he drove his Jeep SRT-8 Track Hawk on the quarter mile, but he didn't have to time shifts or anything the Jeep did all the work. I'm not quick on a bike by the way, and actually I'm pretty slow, but I love this demo and how it shows that even a practical bike can be fun.

Finally a real world drag racing with common bikes. I would suggest pitting it against other bikes in it's class like hornet/mt07/cb07 or sport bikes of same size, and even maxi scooters(tmax, ak550, x-adv, forza 750).

Ideas for what to do with the SV? Drag race with a budget 4 stroke 600/1000 Then drag with sports 600/1000, then naked, then super/hyper bikes. Could be the SV v two models from each category at a time? Why no roll on competition especially vs the Porsche?
