Hey man, your car looks really cool! I wish you luck on your journey. A tip: install wind deflector on the car windows, this makes it possible to open the windows slightly and let out the moisture (from breathing during sleep) that will condense and leave the car with a bad smell.

Hey Bro! Thank you for this video! I am JUST buying my (2008) SX4 DDiS GS 4WD and I am super excited about it. And I'm planning the same kind of adventure with it together with my girlfriend. We live in Hungary, Europe and in the next following years we would like to explore the "Alternative Silk Road" from here to the Himalayas in Nepal. Through the Balkan, Turkey, Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan, through India to Nepal. From there we will hike to reach the Mount Everest base camp in high altitudes by feet. We also love trekking and mountaineering so this is also a motivation to visit these places during an expedition like this, with the SX4. So I will follow your journey very happily and I am really curious about your findings and experiences through your big trip. I wish you all the bests for this and I am really happy that I have found your video here. In case, may I ask you for your experiences and hints in the future when I will get there to start the modifications on my car? In case of this I would happily contact you on Facebook or so. Best regards, Andras from Hungary :)

I also second the post by minimoto saying have wind deflectors on the windows... I didn't use wind deflectors but got mosquito netting so I could actually sleep with my windows partially open because it gets really hot here.... Don't know if you've left yet, but if you're still planning on leaving north America this fall, don't forget that it's summer down there! and it'll be wicked hot in some places... Chile was 40+celsius when I was traveling there a few years back.... Also, what I would do next time with my car that you might want to consider: make it so that I can comfortably(ish) convert it into a sleeping arrangement without actually opening my driver side door. The flies/locusts/mosquitos are absolutely BRUTAL sometimes and I have had to wait until sun went down completely to avoid stepping out of my car into swarms of biting flies only to then be swarmed upon by mosquitos because it was now their time of day

What I did was I bought some black plastic film rolls from amazon. I stapled this black film to the reflectix. Now people from the outside just see a complete blackout. It just looks 100% tinted from the outside. Worked great. Also, where is your spare tire now, I did not see it? Wish you all the best. The time is now, not when the time is perfect, because the perfect time never comes... My 2009 SX4 says hi to BMO.
@BoondockingwithBMO3 жыл бұрын
I love that Idea! I really don't like the look of the reflecitx. Do you feel the black absorbs the heat and sun? I guess you're not really sleeping during the day, but the early sun might raise the temp a little faster? Thanks for the suggestion!

My spare tire is currently at home, atm the don't have a good place to mount it. Now that the weather is warming up I'm able to start preparing for the bumper builds. I'll be adding a swing arm over the rear hatch that will allow me to mount my spare tire, but for now, it lives at home.
@danherrick57853 жыл бұрын
@@BoondockingwithBMO The layer of reflectix helps keep both the heat and the cold out. I did notice the outside black does get hot in the sun, but that's against the window and the reflectix stops the transfer of outside temps. I splept inside in Florida during the day a few times, it does get warmer, but not like outside. I also had a curtain blocking the front from the back. I also got water drip things on the outside so the rain doesn't drop in. I just crack the windows an inch or two and get outside air. If it's not raining, I have misquito netting that I put in the windows. I have a 3 to 4 foot roll and just place it between the door and car - I shut the door on the netting, and wala, I can have the whole window open and the netting stays in place...

What is it that attracts us to this underdog? In the UK the sx4 isn't that popular. The Audi's, BMW's, and VW's are cars of choice for ya 30 year old. I honestly don't get it. A well priced, spacious 4x4 that has a lovely 2L diesel and is reliable. I've carried super king-sized mattress and a single bedframe on my cross bars. I have a roof bag for week trips away with 2 kids. It's more fun than I remember my grand Vitara being to drive (although that is a very good looking vehicle). To others mines just some weird looking Suzuki with zero cool factor and better suited to a middle aged woman. I think it's great!
