This was a good day of test riding at Freedom Cycles. I rode this same bike that weekend and agree 100% with what you've said.

I also have an '18 DL1000. I totally agree that it is a hamdful off-road. It really is more of a road adventure bike. The 800DE is a bike that I have my eye on

As the owner of 13 V Stroms in the past (11 x 650 and 2017 XT being the last one) I was looking toward something like this ( a bit more HP) but I would prefer 19” front wheel as well as tubless tires. And a bit lighter. Very nice review but at this point Aprilia Tuareg 660 with tubless tires, cruise control, even better suspension and better ground clearance seems to me like #1 in this class.

On paper, the Tuareg does appear to be the best. But when I saw one in person and sat on it, I was disappointed to the fit and finish on it. Not your typical Aprilia expectations.

Wow! What a VStrom Veteran you are! I enjoy my 2004 DL1000 W 62K miles, used w over 50k miles. I was attracted to buying this one from a fussy Sandia Laboratory rocket scientist- it came with: 2 sets Giving Hard luggage( including new Alaskan oversized & never mounted), tank bag & Giving big trunk, gps, 2 screens, full adventure suspension (nib.) new wire harness w all LED. Lights replaced, pia fog lights, adjustable pegs, higher mirrors, figured an honest 7 grand in parts w gallons of oil, filters, plugs, brake pads , all fresh coolant hoses & potential fail parts for road trips when Suzuki dealership closed on Sunday/ Monday - this guy could keep it on the road. A joy to drive. I'm doing plugs, air filter, brake flush after 2 seasons riding. Never missed a beat! Foam heated seat was expensive & heated grips w all accessories wired into Denali Box which I never knew or had. It would cost a fortune to add all this stuff to an new 800! But I like keeping up w new stuff!

I'm Italian, I was rooting for the Aprilia but when I saw in person the Suzuki was better. Was much more of a bike. The Aprilia si much better off-road but if you don't do basically everything off-road and are a very competent offroader (like I am not) the Suzuki is better. Throttle lock for the cruise does the job.

Ah, I still think that the Aprilia is a fantastic bike, don't get me wrong.

Thanks for the review. I like the simplicity of the format and how you talk about both the good and the not-so-good parts.

After 2k miles in the last month, I agree with most everything you've reported on. For me, the vibrations are not bad at all in the pegs, but I wear tech7s and made some 4mm soft rubber insoles myself. I do get bad vibration in the bars, though. Some of that isn't the bikes fault....I ha e pinched nerves in my neck and lower back from several bad mx getoffs 20 years ago. I think an atlas will help bc I can relax my hand at highway speeds. The bad handlebar vibration is from 5-6ish.....if the atlas won't help I'll look into some rubber mounted bar risers, and if that doesn't work I'll get some fassst flex bars, with brass inserts. All in all, it's a good moto in my estimation. Great review. Good luck

I would say all 3 are very reliable and are known for their durability.

@@1LiterADVhow too heavy does it feel compared to the AT? How much less torquey does it feel? Does it handle any better in the twisties or off-road?
@1LiterADV
@1LiterADV Жыл бұрын
The 800de feel much lighter to move around that an AT. It feels just a quick to get up and go as the AT. Except that ultimately the AT does have more power. Michael, who rides the red AT on our channel, seemed to think the 800de felt quick enough that he didn’t notice much of a difference coming from the AT.
@Nulrom
@Nulrom Жыл бұрын
@@1LiterADVI totally agree. Is like a little AT. I just love her. Maybe a bit of a rise on the handlebars, cause I'm short on arms and at low speed I need more "reach" for the big handlebars (that I love).

Too Fat, lame effort, no tubeless wheels. Too many other better bikes. Very disappointing

let me show your list of better bikes as I just come back from a drive test and think this a top tier ADV bike
@verbalwidget7267
@verbalwidget7267 Жыл бұрын
@@christiangarcia3803 First off did you lay the Pig800 on its side and pick up all 500+ pounds of it? The Tenere T700 I have over 10k miles on would be a better pick, but even the T700 is lacking tubeless wheels. KTM790 & 890 way better and I'm not a fanboy of KTM but they give you what you need, Aprilia 660 is a beast and checks all the boxes at 450 pounds. You tell me why everyone can make sub 450lb 800cc ADV bikes give tubeless wheels, and all the farkles and suzuki can't, when they designed this bike from the ground up to compete in the 800cc market. I would buy a CFMoto before I would by a disaster like the V800. Just my opinion but the fact sheet does NOT lie.

Ian from big rock moto picked it up a whole bunch and said it was surprisingly easier then most other 800cc adv bikes
@verbalwidget7267
@verbalwidget7267 10 ай бұрын
But he is not 65 years old either😂. If you wish to pick up a 500+ pound bike than the V800 is for you. I had a T700 and that is the max for me, because we are all different. The very concept of off road bikes is lighter weight than a street bike.
@blackskunk54
@blackskunk54 9 ай бұрын
@@marklescault9429 Yes, the Suzuki is actually easier to pick up than a Tenere as it is top heavy, the V-Strom carries it weight low down.
